 Don't think much and move on. 
 It is good that they rejected you otherwise it is not a good idea to work with such uncool colleagues.

 I agree that they should still be human and all that, but nobody is a saint. For every single worthy person, there are 1000 non productive fakers.

It is still not clear what they would achieve by being rude.

I am an experienced guy and had a couple of interviews recently, where I observed that the panelists were extremely rude. 

I could understand that my answers did not make much sense to them, and I am happy to accept that I am not a 'mr. Know it all" but their rudeness is not clear to me.

As far as I know I did not say or do anything to offend them, and the point of interview discussion is precisely to find out how much a candidate knows . 

Could you help me understand What might be the reason for their arrogance?

I've interviewed with multiple companies, and I'm starting to notice a pattern. 

Interviewers who:
- Have their cameras off
- Show up in old t-shirts, looking like they haven't washed their face or combed their hair
- Roll their eyes when the answer isn't what they wanted to hear
- Fidget around when you are speaking
- Look anywhere but at the camera
- Give in to itches all over the body 👀 
among many others 

If we as interviewees are expected to be presentable and excited, the least interviewers could do is put in a little effort to appear decent and engaged.

I've noticed a pattern where HRs from mediocre companies are extremely arrogant and ask unnecessary questions. Whether it is from their tone of voice, to asking ridiculous questions about a candidate's personal life and things that are already on the resume, why do they act so holier than thou? Now FAANG adjacent companies and their HRs/ first point of contacts are always empathetic and very clear in asking sensible, relevant questions. Why don't companies realise that their first point of contact is what affects their brand and hiring unqualified folks makes it worse. Have you ever noticed this? What do you think can be done to make this/ candidate experience better?

Why are HRs from mediocre companies so arrogant?

HRs in mid places are usually coming from really small / unknown companies and feel like they’ve made it hence the arrogance. Folks in big/decent companies usually have come from wonderful education bgs and workplaces and if not, have worked hard enough to reach where they are. That humbles you, I feel.

So basically I don't hesitate in challenging the interviewer if I feel like they don't know how to interview a senior candidate

so during many interviews, this is how I have caught them off guard:

1. The interviewer was asking me technical questions and expecting to explain properly throughout. So at the end i asked him about the tech stack they use, he said Azure. I asked him why they use Azure and not AWS, to which he said "it's cheaper", i didn't let it go, i asked him for a proper technical explanation, his red face was worth seeing.

2. The interview asked me a hard DSA question, and I wasn't able to solve it properly, he didn't even give me enough hints, just expected me to solve it. So halfway I asked him, would you like to solve a DSA if I ask you right now, he said no because it's not his interview. To which I asked, are you afraid that you won't be able to solve? If you are going to reject me for not solving this question, would you resign if you aren't able to solve the question. He ended the call.

3. One interviewer was asking me absurd technical detailed questions. I asked him why are you asking such questions, he said he needs to know my thought process because he will work with me. I started asking him similar questions, he said he won't answer because it's not his interview. I said I also need to know your thought process because we'll work together, so you should also answer these questions, he had no reply.

4. The interviewer asked me about a challenging project that I had done recently. I don't like this question at all. So I said there wasn't any challenging project because I'm good at what I do so it's always easy for me. He moved on to the next question.

5. HR asked me why I resigned without an offer? I asked if it's mandatory? No reply.

Not sure whether this is something to tom-tom about. Talks more about the quality of interviewer & the approach taken by the person.   
  
 To be honest, they're well within their right to ask you a tough question and/or to test your thought process, that's their job. If you get so easily offended, you're probably not going to fit in, in the long term.  
  
 I'm sure there are better ways to communicate that the interviewer is asking you a lame question or there's insufficient information.  
  
 Honestly, I take tons of interviews, an hour spent interviewing is an hour spent not doing actual work and drop in productivity. Doubt if senior people would ever do this to waste 'their' time... (Forget yours). Sensible people wouldn't.  
  
 No offense, but with so many interviews going this way, maybe time to point the mirror the other way...

most of us have come across at least one of the following bad interviewer type: 

1. Not knowing why they are asking that specific question, which skill are you testing ?

2. Those who ask questions in a Google doc. It's the worst, the candidate ends up struggling to format whatever they write.

3. Have "YouTube" knowledge instead of in-depth understanding. Imagine the candidate asking you a question and hurting your ego.

4. Asking candidates to switch on camera, while keeping theirs off.

5. Staying silent, not being interactive, not giving any kind of hints.

6. Not putting any effort to understand the candidate's mindset or background, asking intro just for the sake of it.  You might work with that person, put some effort in, ok ?

7. Having a fragile ego, not accepting a different school of thought.

8. Just copying the question from somewhere & not knowing how to solve the questions themselves, giving hints which ends up confusing the candidate instead of helping.

9. Expecting the exact answer, instead of focusing on the thought process.

10. Asking Hard DSA questions in a one hour interview.

11. No proper intro, no setting the interview base, eager to just jump to questions.

12. Those who think interviews can only be for one hour, not keeping extra time. Who decided the interview will only be one hour ?

13. Not knowing how to format the interview.

Interviewing is a skill/art, please learn it, don't waste your or anyone's time. Imagine a skilled candidate not getting the job they want/deserve because you didn't know what you were doing.

It's better to treat the candidate like your other colleague and you are just brainstorming a problem.

Whenever I have come across a good interviewer, I have always ensured to tell them they are a good one.

I recently gave an interview, it was 4th round, the manager round, interviewer was tired and seemed not interested, he gave a ui and told me to think of data structure and edgse cases in 5 min. And got off the call , he joined after 5 mins and asked me answer, I was annoyed by his behaviour and couldn't perform well, I missed a single edge case and after that I got rejected. Is this the common behaviour or should I complaint it to the HR. He was director of engineering and seemed too much introverted.

The interviewer was least bothered to know what I am doing in my current role and how I can contribute to org but only conducted interviews by posting code snippet to solve. Why companies have made interview so hard?

I attended one interview today. The interview went only for 11mins and as a courtesy the interviewer should introduce himself before he starts interviewing I found a big gap here. I decided not to continue with the interview further due to below reasons;

1. The interview was a one way video call where I was feeling awkward as I was not able to see other person's face and was talking in the air.

2. I was asked why did I apply for this role which is a Senior role and I have no experience in handling a managerial role of team handling?

2. I found the way I bombarded with the questions from the starting was very unprofessional and somewhere I felt embarrassed.

3. I was asked by the interviewer to check with the HR/Recruiter why he/she has shortlisted me ?

My answer for the 2nd question was as follows;

I am having 9yrs of experience and I found the responsibilities mentioned in JD are suitable and I have the skills of handling the role confidently, I do not see anywhere in Required skills it is mentioned that the candidate has a mandatory team handling experience required to apply for this role.

Candidates can apply for any role he/she finds suitable and no one can stop them applying. I have applied for this role as I found it suitable but if this was not suitable for me why did my resume get shortlisted and called for a VC interview and wasted my time

Typically I never see an interviewer turn up on time.  I mean it's like you spend an hour or more beating the traffic, and then locating the venue, and then trying to find a place to park your vehicle.  After all the trouble, you find that the interviewer is "busy" so please wait.

Sometimes the wait turns out so annoying, when you see the staff there running around busy or rather "looking busy". No one bothers to answer your query, they are just running around.

Some interviewers just try to bully you. Even when you are right, they are hell bent on proving you are wrong. Of course there are some who will try putting you down as much as they can, to the extent of destroying your confidence. That itself is a red flag never to join that company.

Worst experience I had with TCS, the panel was filled with some old uncles, who kept asking everything except what was related to my field. Yeah once was asked about bridges too.

The walk in drives are the worst of the lot. More often than not chaotic and messy, stand in long Qs, some volunteers trying to look important. And endless wait for your turn. Go to one of them be prepared to spend all day there.

Why these HR’s not ready to provide feedback after the interviews round .

I am not getting if candidates attended interviews for 1hr / 45 min /30min at least they deserve feedback doesn’t matter if it’s positive or negative .

It’s better to accept negative/positive feedback instead of keeping hope . This is big demotivating for us.

It’s a request to all HR’s please don’t play with our times. And one question why you are more active before setup the interview and then act like dead .

Does anyone else feel like the PM interview process is easily scammable? I feel like 80% of it is a vibe check and 20% is the actual content itself.
Am a PM with 3 YoE and have been interviewing around recently. I have 0 preparation for any interview I walk into and have gotten offers from multiple startups. (Not bragging, I'm a good talker)
You need to just break down any questions into understandable parts and explain it well enough.
Maybe it's imposter syndrome or maybe I'm a little disillusioned with my job.

The PM interview is broken

I just finished an interview with ServiceNow for a senior software engineer role and writing this up.

Anger rushed through my body after finishing the interview for multiple reasons.

reasons:
1. The interviewer joined 10 minutes late and he was very lethargic.
2. The questions he asked regarding my current job were very basic and then I realized that he should be fresher or should have 2 - 3 years of experience.
3. After the interview I checked his profile on LinkedIn and he was a 2021 graduate (as I guessed).
4. I don't understand why an organization assigns software engineers (2.5 YOE) as interviewers for hiring a senior software engineer(8+ YOE). It doesn't make sense to me.
5. Then the interviewer asked a basic DSA question, and I gave him the solution, now he was not familiar with the Python language hence intrigued about the implementation of the heapify in Python. I explained to him how Heapify works but still, he could not understand what it is.
6. The part I got pissed off is the interviewer's attitude of him knowing everything.
7. The interview was scheduled for 1 hour and we went overtime, it's okay to go overtime by 5-10 minutes., But this guy is taking more than 20 minutes. He din't have basic ethics of valuing candidate's time.

This is not my first interview with ServiceNow, this is my second and I had same feelings in the first interview as well.

It's okay for me to not grab this opportunity, but think about someone who is really struggling to get a job during this tough time, because of the interviewer being lethargic.

Hope ServiceNow focuses on their interviewing system and improves it.
