Advice Needed !!

Hi Everyone!

Going through a tough phase of life. Been working in Tcs for the last 3.8 years. Growth was good here compared to others. Was employed at 3.36 as a fresher and the current ctc is of around 10 and received the promotion to c2 too. My mother got cancer around 3 years back in 2022. Her chemotherapy has been going for the last 3 years. The doctor gave her 5 years after it was diagnosed and she's facing so many issues that I don't dare wish it on anyone. I have taken a wfo exception frm this month ( went to the office first in 2024). I feel like I am earning too low and need to improve. But the issue is Tcs insurance covers the treatment cost to some extent. I still have to pay like 7-8 lacs per year but around 22 lacs is covered by insurance. I have doubts whether I should change the firm or not. Whether I'll get Insurance for a pre-existing disease of a parent or not. This is just one thing. I am not able to study, can't even forcefully do that. I also have too many health issues like ra, tmj. The feeling of not being able to do anything is eating me. My main concern is money but I am stuck and not able to do anything. Any advice, suggestions are welcome !

I have gone through the same situation and I lost my father last year. One suggestion, don't think of switching at this point of time. Cause if you switch, the major problem is that the existing health issue won't be covered for the next 1 year. 1 year waiting period is applicable in most of the organization for the existing major disease. So think carefully before taking any decision.

Have you confirmed that there is a 1 year waiting period?

Yes, there is a one year waiting period from the date of enrollment.

Remain in TCS till your mother’s issues get stablised a bit. I think it will become way too difficult if you switch and get caught up in a bad organisation. Take one problem at a time. If you want to earn more money, you can always look around for freelancing or parttime jobs

The thing is my mother will be on life long medication. Yes, I am worried about the bad org or people too but thinking about all these things and getting frustrated again and feeling I am on square 0 is much too overwhelming. I am a Salesforce developer and I doubt there are any freelancing projects for my tech.

I believe it is only limited to spouse and children. Does it cater for parents too ?

I feel so sad thinking about your situation. Had it been my own mother... I would have lost hope from my life 😢

Tcs atleast you can able to tolerate others companies will put you in more pressure, don't think anything negatively and go in a flow. All the problems in your life will get solved soon don't worry.

That is true. Tcs doesn't put much pressure on me regarding work. But I am in a support project and the work here is too below my skill level but I do get enhancements from now and then and help other projects too. But I have a feel that if I don't switch now, I'll be going down a very slow growth rate. I don't want to sacrifice my career

Prayers for you and your mother. Wishing her a smooth treatment and speedy recovery. As far as I know most corporate insurances waive off the pre existing diseases exclusion. But for critical conditions like cancer it could be different. Please take care of your health too.

If you will change then you might get a lot of work pressure and have to learn new stuff, understand things it will take extra time and effort. How will you do that if right now you are not even able to study?

No company can beat TCS policy, you have an option of opting for Tata trust in case your insurance is exhausted.
