Advice needed for intern role

Currently an intern for a XYZ company, pretty good, compensation is pretty good, I'm an SDE intern, the team which im in is platform engineering, should I switch the role which has something more based on the heavy coding side?

I don't see myself beyond 5 years here, would this team matter when it comes while making a switch?

Usually in Platform teams you get to do deep technical work, as other developers in your company will be working on top of your work, depending on a variety of projects, you have a variety of crazy challenges/problems to solve for.

Maybe you're an intern currently that's why you're not getting that kind of work which requires a lot of technical depth. Or no one is thinking of what challenges other developers are facing currently and planning to solve them.

If you're sure on switching teams you will get more heavy coding requirements, definitely switch.

Have a conversation with your manager, communicate clearly that you would love to work on a good problem statement which requires intense coding. They can either give you that kind of work or they can point you to the team where this opportunity is there for you.

Work matters when you switch companies, not teams. So aim to get to do the best work always

-> yea, I agree with you, since I'm an intern, not much workload on me, but I've talked to a few people on the team, and they are pretty much busy working on some or the other requirements always.

->coming to the switching part, I'm really not sure of how other teams are right now, I just got tensed a little and found the only solution was switching teams 🤡, please bear with me, it's my first time in 9 to 5

All I'm looking for is whatever time I'm gonna spend here is gonna be used as learning for me, any sort of advice which will help me in future is really appreciated

I understand. It's important that we aren't too patient, we should be proactive in looking for opportunities for learning and growth.

So my advice would be to communicate with your manager, schedule a one-on-one for 30 minutes. Tell them, that you would like to work on a challenging problem statement as you feel you're currently not getting to learn as much.

Also it's important to have this conversation with your Manager because their feedback would directly influence the decision of you converting to Full Time Employee or not.

So have this conversation with them as well, that if you get converted to FTE, how do they see your role and responsibilities change and how do they see your career grow here.

Since it is the initial phase of your career, have a discussion around your career goals and find alignment with the opportunities you can potentially get working here.

All the best. 1st job teaches a lot. We have all been there so don't worry, don't hesitate to reach out for any guidance or help here.
