[Thread] Will AI take our job or make us better?
Everyone in tech that I talk to seems to evangelize AI too much. On the other hand, when I talk to non-tech folks they seem to think that AI is the most evil stuff and ruins artistic and musical expressionism. What do you think?
Every technology innovation that takes away a certain set of jobs, also creates a new set of jobs. Adaptability is important. People will always have a distaste for change but change is inevitable.
Also there's still a lot of uncertainty about AI, schizoing out over it will only add to your stress/anxiety. No one knows what next will happen with AI until it happens.
A whola lotta shit like Devin and Amazon Checkout AI about to get exposed. Multiple fake it till you make it's out there
@GaddiyanUchiyan That is actually true. But it also gives us an insight into what is about to become really big in the future. It would be imprudent to not analyze what is about to go down in history as the single most important innovation
If I give you rice and tell you to make biryani, it won't happen automatically. Sameway, AI can help us to code more efficiently but it can not make Biryani.
@MrBugHunter But in the end if all I have to do is give instructions on how to make it then, it will end up eating multiple jobs away. No need for a junior dev lmoa.

I would like to remain hopeful and say, will make us better.
From my personal point of view. It won’t take our job it is just making out our job easy and fast way or else you can say smarter way solution to complex and time consuming outdated processes doing in less time.
@FrozeBee But it is also making these jobs more efficient and requiring lower headcounts. Which means that there will be fewer jobs in a winner takes all market.
It will mostly just reduce the work force. Yes it will surely create new opportunities but these opportunities will be very different from what one can imagine. Like for example dot com and social media revolution created a new kinda job - "influencers". AI would do something similar too but rest assured, at least in the short term it will only reduce workforce.
Well I have been laid off recently, despite the company performing really well

So what I think will happen over a period of time is below:
1) AI makes IT and other jobs easier.
2) Some old types of jobs will go away but new types of jobs will be generated which will be easier to do.(Jobs can neither be created nor destroyed they just transform from one type to another)
3) Due to jobs becoming easier and not requiring high skills and reduced entry barrier.. salaries will reduce and IT salaries may come at par with other industries like manufacturing etc.(irrespective of roles, everyone Product Owners, Managers, Developers will be impacted)
4) Lower salaries will reduce the glamour of IT, so less students will aspire to join the IT industry.
5) Over the period people joining the IT industry and jobs generated by IT companies will stabilize.
6) There will not be a drastic difference in salaries between IT and other sectors.
7) Lower level employees will get paid less and higher level employees will be paid more like in any normal company.
