People over 35 what is one thing you regret from your younger years?

Based on comments Jo career pe focus Kiya use chahiye ladki, aur Jo ladki pe focus Kiya use chahiye career. Grass is always greener on other side.
May be that the point there will be pros and cons of each path/ decision we take..we should take the road where we are comfortable with the cons of that path....

Owning a house.
I seen the rent and prices double in the last 9 years but salary/savings didn't grow at the same rate.
Not asking people to invest in 3 bhks but evena 2bhk investment would have helped me a lot in value capture and passive income.

Not investing adequately in equity (stocks/mutual funds) and using debt instruments instead (PPF, FD). Being caught up in work and not going to family gatherings. No one but me now remembers all those days when I used to work till very late and on weekends
Focusing -excessively- on career and not living a fuller life (travel, spontaneous shit, sacrificing health).
Taking care of my body and health. Money is no use if the spinal issues dont let you sleep even on the most expensive mattress.
No ragrets!
What’s done is done. No point crying over it. Some really bad things happened but they’ve made me who I am and I am content.
The point is not to cry ..it is just to put it here so that young folks can see the various path people have taken along with the outcomes..so that they can make an informed choices.. your wisdom and experience will help them show the path

regret picking mechanical engineering
Regret not moving abroad
Regret quitting research during pandemic and doing bullshit back office job
Enough damage done for life
Fear making any new move which I feel I would regret again
It will all make sense in a few years once u see them... Remember we can only connect dots backward

Is SIP a good start? Or is there anything else we should focus on, early in our careers?

There's no story. I started skipping classes in the third semester and before I knew it, I was way behind the level of catching up. Never tried to anyway. Went back home for a couple of years, came back to Bangalore and got a job in a startup. Completing 8 years in the industry.

I highly regret not starting investing early in my life. Can’t stress enough on this. Doesn’t matter how much you earn invest something out of it.
Didn't date enough girls in my younger years before marriage 😭 envy the gen-z kids now.

I too wish I had gone out with some girls in college time.
Advice for young folks based on this thread:
- focus on your health
- start investing / saving asap
- give enough time to your friends / family / loved once
Not investing enough on health and wellness and being under the impression that my body will survive all odds since I'm fit.
Nearing 40 i realise how much of permanent damage I have done due to irresponsible eating
I am not earning a very high salary and probably 3-4 years behind in terms of career level.
I have a very good family life though. I invested in equities, have bought my home (45L loan outstanding) and have one small affordable housing 1BHK for some passive income which pays for itself.
Overall no regrets but the size of my stock portfolio is low and now that I am done with RE, will focus on equities majorly now.
Now I am majorly focussing on my career and planning to earn a bit more. For context 34 year old, BBA and MBA from an avg University. 32 LPA.
Don't be so harsh on u...u r earning fine...54lpa and wlb missing, will u take this?

I'm doing well financially. The only thing my mother ever wanted from me was a decent enough home - my father's govt job didn't pay enough to afford anything decent in metro cities. Today, I've been able to buy a decent home in BLR. I do have a home loan, but have enough in stocks/fd/mf to close the loan whenever wanted. While it never makes sense financially to buy a home this young, my mother(and father) are extremely happy with the purchase.
I did work hard in the past decade. Don't have any regrets on working hard though. After 11th std, prpretty much very rarely had any fun. Was very closed in college as well. My mental health and self-confidence suffered very badly. I was very harsh on myself. Didn't realise back then but I was always in fight or flight mode - generalized anxiety. Had very few friends in college, rarely talked with my parents back then, my relationship with nownow-ex also faced some brunt - I did try to isolate her though.
I always kept care of my physical health - one thing I've always enjoyed - always kept one sport handy - gym/running/swimming at different point times. This is the only reason I haven't faced any health consequences so far.
What is the regret then? In hindsight, now that I'm quite well placed financially and have improved pretty much in every aspect, I realize I could have done everything above while also being a little gentler on myself, having a little more fun, making a little more friends, being a little more spontaneous - in short living a little more.
And that is the goal for the next decade - achieve 100x(not financially) while also doing 100x better physically, mentally, and socially. For the younger folks out there taking things way too seriously - continue being serious - just be a little more gentle on yourself - 5 mins a day is a good start - take care.
Focusing excessively on career and learning, should’ve lived a little. Should’ve spent time and money for myself.
Not investing in equity just after undergrad and making good friends
