Folks with considerable experience in startup world, do mba passouts from IIMs and other top tier business schools are actually worth the salaries they are paid?

Looking for genuine and non diplomatic answers since it will be anonymous. It is upto you to reveal the name of the company you resigned from. Lets discuss!!! I will go first - I quit my last organisation (a famous UPI company) in 2020 because, they still are in old technology. No cloud computing, no kubernates, no terraform. Their entire baremetal infra are in 2 DCs (Mumbai and Bangalore). Leadership ideas are outdated. I was very much bored and looking for a change.

The current scenario of MBA grads from non IIM colleges is literally so bad. They have to agree on working free of cost for SIPs just to get an experience on their resume. Unlike IT engineers they have to go to office 5/6 days a week, in cities like Mumbai. Honestly this is the most jarring part of the life. I really hope that you consider this while pursuing for MBA , going abroad is not a bad option in my opinion.

I have a question which was popping since long in my mind , there are many people who go for higher studies abroad in b-schools like LBS INSEAD HEC PARIS, or ivy league at USA or some for MS CS in good colleges , After working for few years with careful financial planning and saving many of them come back to India as they have old age parents, friends and family here . Do these b-schools people get same preference as someone from IIM BLACKIS/FMS/ISB OR as someone from IITs/Nits for higher positions based on performance or in other general things, if they are continuing job here rather going for some business/startups???

Market is that bad that this isn’t about 4-5 people but 72 candidates at IIM-L do not have a job. Saw this on Twitter.

Take this work a pinch of salt, not to be triggered. I work in a company with a good number of folks working in product, growth/ strategy. Many of which are from tier 1 Indian business schools or some even from abroad. Paid hefty, I just don't see them being that smart. Putting way too much time into presenting something instead of getting work done. Jugaad method of calculating target metrics, ever changing requirements (low on clarity) is just the norm. I was someone who looked upto these colleges and wanted to be in one after having a good 5 yoe. Now I'm not sure. Hoping to be proved wrong, so there's no need to fire your guns at me :)

Was selected in this year's one of top 3 IIM's Executive MBA. Ended up joining another college instead, one of the reasons behind the gratefulness is the immaturity of the IIM Executive MBA batch. The batch created a WhatsApp group, of 400+ people. With so many folks in the group, there will be conflict in opinions and hence disagreements. But out here, it sounds like a bloodbath. There's fights everyday, daily spamming of unnecessary messages, and language that can make any mature professional bow their head in shame. The WhatsApp community consists of ~60 sub groups (based on sub batches and sections, interests, cities, centres within cities, etc). The discussions in the groups always starts out quite positively, but often ends with meaningful conversations turning into spam, and eventually someone offending someone, for good or bad measure. What follows the is an entirely different ball game of bitching in yet another WhatsApp group, created purely for banter, called "Bakchodi" (duh). There once was a full-blown 500+ messages spam discussion on the pros and cons of the student email domain - .edu vs ac.in. Another time, similar amount of spam was done to collectively decide which tagline to use in LinkedIn for the batch (permutation and combination of IIM-X, batch number, year, etc). Mind you, this was before the course started. In another instance - during the week long orientation, the seniors apparently behaved very badly with the current batch, and (wrongfully) removed one person from the collective networking group because they got offended. End of the day, I was extremely disappointed by the behavior of the people. While I do agree that the ones responsible for the behavior is a minority, I expected more maturity from folks who are working professionals with a minimum of 3+ YoE. I can only hope that the ones who are taking the course seriously do not have an overall bad experience because of the bad apples.
