I’m working under a leader who is knowledgeable but extremely toxic. Over the past year, here’s what he has done to me and my team:
- Badmouths each team member separately to create distrust.
- Encourages us to take lunch breaks separately, claiming that having friends at work won’t help our growth.
- Pits us against each other for work credit while simultaneously accusing us of lacking coordination.
- Forces managers to do executive-level work due to resource shortages, then yells at them for not "just managing."
- Constantly asks individuals what others think of him.
- Shows favoritism toward those who blindly obey him.
- Takes full credit for the team's achievements without acknowledging anyone else.
- Secures promotions and salary hikes for himself while telling the team that management has no budget.
- Frequently contradicts himself—saying one thing today and something entirely different the next day.
Every day with him is the worst I’ve ever experienced. Still, I hope things will change someday, or I will find a way to move to a better workplace.
How do you guys handle people like this?
