Google is..
A paradise for rest and vest people on the right team
- Do under 40 hours and get normal rating
- System is self healing, you can break something and don’t care
- Deadlines are a joke
- No responsibility
- Can ignore pings and care about anything
A nightmare for career growing mindset people
- Tech island
- Hard work are all abstracted away
- Promo is too fucking complicated
- Overhired and slow growth equals to slow promo
- Politics growing everyday. Basically hunger game to fight for impact and projects
Google is not the same anymore, things are changing rapidly & soon it will be worse.
Xoogler here. I echo this so much, and it's what made me leave (was in a tech role as well)
Google really was my dream company through life, but 2-3 months in, things really became clear (luckily I was in a startup before Google, and that was crucial to understand what was wrong there).
- You can't really do something great, it's just mundane things on repeat
- After the first 6-7 months on the role, you're usually not learning, because of point 1
- People are amazing, but they're not as driven as you'd expect
- Growth is stunted
- Promotion is the main thing on everyone's agenda (without realizing there may be better work out there)
Ultimately, I feel it's an amazing culture and company but people have become too comfortable to realize the flaws :(
Sounds pretty good to me 🤷♂️
But isn’t it a good thing when you’ve made peace with your expectations from life? Say you’re at 40+LPA in hand and maybe se 35+. Even 5% incr/ year would be okay and you’ll have all the time in the world for self + family/kids. Thoughts?
First world problems!
Yes, of course. Nothing wrong with first world problems. We should all have problems suitable for the life we’ve been given, no?
@Royalflush you left a startup to join google , and now you’re complaining about it being slow paced. Obviously many people want chill life , perks that google offers and that’s why they work hard to get into Google, once they are in, why would they continue that? I’m not saying all individuals think like that but many folks do and there’s nothing wrong in that. I’m still curious that you didn’t know all this before joining google!
Having a problem is not an issue but you are pointing obvious things which are well known to everyone.
Also the hiring process is a pain in the ass. So long and time taking , so many rounds testing aspects that you will never need in a job.
Man, I am going to join Google in sometime. The offer letter came through today. Had a conversation with a seriesA startup founder, but now really tired to even give any more rounds :(
