Help me navigate a salary negotiation situation

I’m ML Engineer with 3 YOE (20LPA Base) currently based in Bangalore, and interviewing for a startup in Mumbai for Senior MLE role. During my initial conversation with HR, I told that my expectation would be 25LPA (I think I lowballed myself) and HR told that the budget is at max 25, so if I would be willing to negotiate. Honestly, at that time my only motivation was to get out of my current organisation. Now I feel that I should have asked for more, and after 3 rounds of interview, and evaluating the living expenses in Mumbai compared to BLR, I feel I should have asked for more. I’m going on friday to their office for final interview with leadership, and offer most likely would be made straight after that. How do I get the best compensation possible in this situation?

P.S. In another grapevine post, someone mentioned that a PM working there is making 20LPA with 2YOE, and suggested I should be asking for more.

Tell them that you did not factor in the cost of living of Mumbai before coming up with the expectations, and you think that x is a more reasonable number.

Yes, 25 lakhs is no hike at all compared to your current salary.

That's 25% hike. This is not 2020-22 period. That's generous hike tbh

In absolute terms, it is only 5 lakhs. If you consider Mumbai cost of living, it would be almost similar.

I'll hire you bro don't leave Bangalore. Figure out some way for us to connect. I am genuinely hiring senior ml guys

Create a Google form where the op can share a link to his/her resume and share it here. I don't think there is a better way to connect until grapevine introduces DMs.

i would generally recommend against moving to Mumbai for tech roles. Mumbai might have all the money and spirit and vibes and whatnot, but they seriously lack good tech folks. It’ll be a nightmare to work with 20+ experienced “tech” unkil with compulsive urge to micromanage - even if no unkil, pls don’t move unless the opportunity is really really great workwise - forget 25-30 debate.

If u can take the risk of losing the offer altogether then be adamant on getting better number as now you’ve had the time to go through added expenses and maybe some more data points

Actually, I need to play it safely. I cannot risk it, as I’m really desperate to get out of the current organisation. Thats why I didn’t ask for a lot of hike, and I was planning to use this offer to take it somewhere else. But now I quite liked the company after 3 rounds of interview, I got to know a lot.

You should increase your expected salary based on the fact that you will be shifting to Mumbai. It's almost not a hike situation and you will miss a chance of getting a salary jump everyone expects during the switch. If they revoke the offer still I won't consider that as an opportunity lost in terms of salary. If you are keen to work in that particular industry then you can think about it.
