How do I answer "Why did you leave your previous job" effectively?

Whenever I receive a recruiter call, the first question they ask is why did you leave your previous job. How do I answer this effectively. I'm pretty new to the IT industry and would like to know about how to handle these kinds of questions.

This is how I handle this ques: "Actually, my previous company is great company to work at. However, now I would like to explore some more challenging roles where I can grow better". This has just worked for me so far. I never say I am leaving becoz of money.

Why? Becoz though money is a driver in switching companies, the recruiter shouldn't feel that I will leave their company as well just becoz someone else might end up paying a little more.

PS: all of my prev companies were actually good with helpful colleagues

Just be honest and don't overthink it, it's just a field in the form they have to fill. Don't go too deep in bashing your current employer, it's a major red flag for recruiters. You can also just say that the new opportunity is just too good to miss.

Tried, Tested and worked sentences:

  1. In my previous role, I am getting too overwhelmed from multiple teams specifically to pick the projects whereas when I was employed I was asked to work only with 1 team to become an expert and then move to other teams project.

  2. I see my education and internships were more on automation whereas current co. has lot of manual processes and don’t even have the budget to enhance. In today’s world, I want to work with companies who are upscaling themselves time to time so do employees.

  3. Over the time, I have exceeded the expectations however to keep myself motivated, pay is another factor which is not fulfilled even post the hike cycle.

  4. I see myself growing in the work I deliver but my financial responsibilities are also come hand in hand which I am unable to meet.

Master stroke for top companies:

It’s hard to prove that say, so allow me few mins and I will walk you through my skills and achievements to help you in processing my profile further. Then explain and give your best!
