How're tattoos viewed at workplaces in '23?

I have plans to get a few on my fingers. A good chunk of my job involves meeting people (journo here).

What's your take on the acceptance of tattoos at workplaces and among people in 2023?

I have tattoo on my arms and it’s chill with all. Who is anyone judge it? Unless you work for TCS

They won't look at it favourably

Oh I thought this post was about dumbasses(tattus) at workplaces

Coming from a person working as a software engg, it doesn’t matter in my workplace. I have a tattoo on my forearm n it makes no difference.

Nothing from more senior bosses or managers who are stuck in the past?

Not yet. They’ve actually liked the tattoo.. including the vp in India and svp from US. 😂

Depends on what the message is.

If its butterflies and scorpions and flying birds and names of loved ones, generally acceptable.

If you're carving the hakenkreuz on yourself, I would advise against it.

You're right. It is most harmless and the ones with more detail (would invite questions on its meaning) will be made on my back.

I still wondered if it'd hamper job opportunities at the interview stage.

It won't. Unless you're interviewing at a really conservative outfit.

We too face people and sometimes our appearance/seniority influences the way they respond to our questions.

Front facing? I’d say don’t go for it. Maybe consider tattooing your torso?

Based on my experience, tattoos are generally acceptable. Only headache would be to explain meaning of the tattoo 😂

I have plans to get a sleeve and I am saving for it.

Don't get it all in one go, unless you have a full design you already like. Instead you can do bits of art and extend them through the years.

If you are, eg: a sales guy in edtech like Byjus and need to meet parents to sell the product, a BIG NO, even if the company let you have it. Journalist? Depends. If you are a reporter, works but if you plan to take any important interviews of ministers, bureaucrats etc, again a NO, even if your company allows it. It's because of our society's perspective towards tattoos.

It's often the least important folks with the biggest ego :)

I take your point. Thank you so much for your message.

"Important" that depends on the situation. If your prospective customer is a parent, they are important. And, minister that runs our country is nevertheless important.

Get as many tattoos you want and go Huberman route. He covers all of them lol.

Can you please explain the Huberman route?

I have 5 tattoos (1 on my neck, 1 on each wrist and 1 on each forearm) and people around me at my workplace (startup) are completely fine with it, but every person has the same question “does it hurt while getting a tattoo? What is the story behind each tattoo?”

Life at Early stage startups

I used to tell my friends, "When you work at an early-stage startup, there’s no life outside work."

Two years in, I now realize—there's no life inside work either.

For context: I’m part of a 9-person tech team at an early-stage startup...
