As a fresher, I always aspired to become a developer. I was excited when I got placed at TechMahindra, expecting to grow my skills in software development. After completing a few months of training, however, I was assigned to a support project. Despite our efforts to decline the assignment, the HR team gave us only two choices: either accept the support project or resign. This was disheartening, as I was actively looking for developer positions within the organization to put my skills to use, but there were no suitable openings for freshers.
This situation raised a significant question in my mind—why does TechMahindra recruit fresh graduates with development aspirations if there aren’t enough projects to match their skills? If I had been interested in a support role, I would have considered companies like Zoho, Vodafone Idea, or Genpact, where similar roles are available with salaries around 6+ LPA. I chose TechMahindra, even at a starting salary of 3.25 LPA, because I believed I would get the opportunity to work on challenging and engaging development projects, helping me grow as a developer. Unfortunately, the reality did not meet my expectations, leading to disappointment and a feeling that my potential was not being fully utilized.
