Is it okay to compromise on design to make developers work easier?

I'm curious to know if it's okay to compromise on certain design approaches it visuals just to make it easy for devs to develop. I honestly don't understand the ROI on this because my manager is more keen on having the final designs easy to execute for the FE guys than having a bit flavourful UI.
