Is this normal in corporate?
I am a 2022 grad and 1yr into my corporate life and I have stopped liking software engineering. I took software engineering as a career because for the love of it but after experiencing the office politics and constant mundane work I have lost my zeal.
We are always caught between the CTO and the Manager not being on the same page and redoing a lot of our work. For the past 1yr we have been migrating the same stuff to different platforms. No innovative work, no recognition for good work.
Is this normal in the corporate world?
Also I am thinking of taking a break as I want to focus on my health. Is it a good idea to take a break now for 3-5 months and then get back to working again?
This is one of the terrible things that happens in the corporate world. Office politics happens in most of the offices. But generalize them on the basis of just one job experience. I think you should change job which can provide you a better and challenging work environment. Or you could start your own side project that you can work to fullfill your passion for software engineering.
I generally just people not to take break, so early in the career. Make sure you have a health insurance and 6 months savings. The market is not right now to leave a job right now. Depends on how important the health issue is. If it can be managed with work then don't leave the job.
I thunk I can manage health and job together but it's just that I am mentally exhausted with working here and feel like taking a break
I would suggest you to change the company and in between jumping ships , take a 2 week break. Or go to some holiday. Personally, cooking and massages works for me.
You would get burnout in each job , it doesn't mean you'll start taking breaks for 3-5 months.
Don't take yourself seriously, relax a bit, sleep a lot. Let yourself heal, research more about burnout and do what makes you feel happy.
Get a good role and company. Then jump ship. Lot of interesting work around just have to find it.
