Hi, Am from tech background have 10+ years of experience. Have goal/interest in managing a mid size company with around 1000+ employee as a CXO professional in coming 5 years. I know this is not easy as someone who has no exposure in finance/marketing/sales etc because tech itself is not enough to run a business and sales and finance experience is also required for it. What all resources in finance should I delve into depth so that I can understand minutes of business so that someone like me from a tech background can somehow think of target to run a business and prepare for it. Can not go for top mba so kindly suggest me something so that I can learn and do it through self study. TIA

Last week, I was wondering how long has it been for me since I joined Grapevine. Scrolling through OTPs, I realized that the first time I "may" have joined the app is exactly one year ago since today. It has been a hell of a ride. I have had insane conversations with some of the best minds in this country. It also made me appreciate how the same people who will be discussing Finance in one post also end up talking about Nietzsche in another post. I have always felt that we all have great stories to share in our lives. Grapevine has always been a place where smart people in this country have contributed to the collective knowledge here. Lastly, there are always a ton of gloomy folks around you, they are doomsayers. That is always because people in general are more optimistic about their future and that remains a mainstream emotion. Which means that the cost of being wrong is low and the praise for being right is high when you are negative all the time as it is a contrarian take. But let me tell you the most important thing, India is becoming big. No matter what may come our way. People will crib about things as they should, but don't let that deter you from building in India and staying in India. There is a ton of money to be made and you should aim to be on the right side of history.

So, currently I'm a contract employee working in Amazon Prime Video. Prior to this, I had completed my BSc in Microbiology and post that MSc in Biosciences (which I didn't want to do but pushed into. I did want to quit but I was scared). Now our contract will be ending by December and I am hellishly confused with what to do ahead. I did like food microbiology back in my college days but couldn't pursue it according to how I wanted to because I wanted to work for a year or 2 and then pursue my Master's but that flopped hard and along with COVID happening, I never got a job and direly was in need of money to live, which then prompted me to work but ended up in a technical role (basic) and then jumped to a brewery in Bangalore where they told me, I'm not cut out for it and there is no budget to accommodate me there (back in 2021) and after 4 months, in 2022, I got hired into Amazon Prime Video as a catalog specialist/content moderator role in which I'm currently working in. I was wondering if pursuing an MBA would be viable or not. I love the aspects of laws and how they work pertaining towards, and understanding the processes and more to, how corporate companies work in such sectors (entertainment or content related stuff) though been exposed to only surface level of it, I'm not sure as to what all this comes under and how to pursue it. So, if there's any helpful soul, please do help out.

Have a significant cash position right now. Currently, majority is tied up in Indian blue chips and index ETFs. I have a minority position in Fixed Income securities and currently building it up more as I suspect interest rates are likely to have plateaued at their peak.

So I graduated from a Tier 1 college (non IIT NIT) in May 2021, majoring in CS, and got a job as a Software Engineer. And then just after a few weeks changed to a more CS based good named company. Gonna complete a total 2 years of experience, but not feeling if I want to be in the same profession my entire life (even if I consider becoming an Engineering Manager at some stage, that would easily require me first taking atleast 5 more years as an SWE). Not like I don't like coding etc. but feels like this ain't for me. So at this point I'm confused if this is my current job that I am feeling like this and it would get better if I change (there was a false alarm like situation that happened when I started this job, so could be a bias), or go back to school to do an MBA (lately I've been getting attracted to it like a magnet) Even if I go for an MBA, I would want to try hands on on various specialisations (Sales, Marketing, Operations, Strategy), but will keep a good enough focus on Product, my prior tech knowledge could help me. Looking at both options, I've been in a dilemma since a very loooooonnngggg time, unable to decide which one to choose. Any people who've been in similar situations, can you please help me out ?

Overview: Everyone around me, be it old school friends to the people in the bangalore startup ecosystem are planning to or already in the process of doing an MBA. What is happening: Most of the people I know, either are going for a tier 1 MBA in India or colleges like “Carnegie Mellon”/ “INSEAD”/ “NUS” these are really good places. Why am I concerned: I dont have great acade, GEM candidate so I have decided to not pursue CAT at all, and MBA outside India is too expensive. I feel like my job and career are going fine with 4 years of professional experience I am making 25LPA in marketing. I am not keen on doing an MBA but I dont want to regret later. I consider myself to be fairly smart but what happens when I am competing with people who have great brand names on their resume and are actually smart. People on GV with more experience, have you gone through this struggle? Sidenote: I also have friends who have cleared IIM ABC, ISB and not gone, because they just wanted the admit letter. Which is brave lol!
