notice period in TCS

I have a question: What is the notice period in TCS for an associate? Is the notice period different for someone on the bench?

At Tata Consultancy Services, the standard notice period for an associate is 90 days. This policy has no exceptions for any employee, regardless of position or length of service with the company. Employees in this period are expected to carry out their responsibilities and help with the handover process.

For associates, who are on the bench, the notice period in TCS continues to be 90 days. However, there may be situations when the RMG wants to release an employee from such notice if he is not working on any active project. This is mainly done to economise on resources.

I remember when I received an exciting offer from another company. I had been with TCS for over five years and was now preparing to move on. However, the first thing that concerned me was the notice period in TCS. I was also on the bench, so I wondered if that would make a difference.

My experience confirmed that the notice period in TCS is generally 90 days, no matter whether you're working on a project or on the bench. While some departments might offer a reduced notice period, I didn’t experience any such flexibility. The 90 days gave me enough time to wrap up responsibilities and transition smoothly, but it did feel a bit long. I wished there was more flexibility for those on the bench who aren’t actively involved in a project.

The notice period in TCS for an associate is generally 90 days. In the offer letter of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), details about the probation period are written and details about the notice period are also mentioned. There can be a myriad of reasons why an employee would want to resign from TCS. To initiate the separation process, the employee needs to send a resignation email to his/her manager, HR or supervisor. In the email, the person has to include the resignation date and reasons. After that, the supervisor would start the resignation procedure. If the employee wants an early release from the company, they can negotiate the notice period with the manager. On the other hand, if the HR wants to release the employee early, he/she can refuse the offer.

Last year, I was at a farewell party for my friend Meera, who was leaving TCS after several years. She had decided to explore new opportunities, but before she could dive into her next role, she had to navigate the notice period in TCS.

Meera explained that the standard notice period in TCS is 90 days, even for those on the bench. Although it gave time for proper handovers, she thought that it was an unfair advantage because she wasn't working on any projects during that time. Despite her mixed feelings, she appreciated the chance to say goodbye to her teammates properly. She suggested that TCS should consider shortening the notice period for bench employees, making transitions smoother for everyone involved.
