Hey- I’m a CS fresher from an NIT and ended up joining a company whose culture doesn’t sit with me.
I’ve just joined the company and have no clue when to move- need experience and there’s a recession.
Also, I’ll be doing an MBA (looking at ISB) in three years so is it fine if I switch or should I stay (not preferred but open)?
First prepare your resume, list out what kind of work interests you, create an account on job portals and send referrals on LinkedIn, give interviews, crack them, get an offer letter then you decide if it's better to switch or not.
This will help you understand the market and your own strengths. It is only then one realises their true value. Don't presume it is easy to switch. This is an average fresher misconception.
Quite opposite actually- I feel like it’s hard to switch (daunting to be specific). Won’t a short stint look bad on my resume if I switch now?
Nope. You can always cook up a story for others to believe your previous company/role was not genuine. Your paycheck and growth only matter at the end.
Don’t you like coding? Top coders earn far more than top MBAs now a days. Don’t go by old BTech +MBA paradigm. You should have a great reason to ditch CS for MBA .
I feel like I’m built better to lead and coordinate with in/out teams. I don’t mind coding but I see myself being responsible for leading teams in the future (like CTOs, Heads, etc.)
You don’t need MBA to become CTO. That used to be old paradigm. First focus on becoming a great developer. Rather consider MS from top USA university. Only exception is if you have outstanding people skill. But, those kind of roles( non coding tech leads) are increasingly becoming redundant or with limited career growth.
What don't you like about company culture?
Too laid back. People put the bare minimum and leave
No harm in starting to look for opportunities outside.
Don’t give a shit about culture and shit. If you are gaining knowledge, working on some cutting edge tech, making good bucks, grind it for next couple of years and switch to some other company, repeat, and finally when you really feel that a company with good culture is your top priority then settle down with one.
