One thing that I did not know about corporate world before joining it

What’s the experience like? Have you thought if joining a corporate would be better?

Hi folks, thinking of writing a regular mini blog here about my learnings being a generalist in the ecosystem. I currently handle growth at an ecom startup and have previously been through 2-3 startups + a large corporate in my 7 year career. #1: Why you should not stay only in startups Recently started reflecting on salaries of many peers who are also startup folks and trying to see where it stands. There are 3 cohorts: a. People who started out in Big 4/Corporate & then became a generalist: They've been underpaid the most. First pay was 4-5L, and when they transitioned to startups, started at 7-9L. Over time, growing from there is difficult without MBA. b. People who have forever been in startups: They earn more than A on average. But here too, there is a delta in their salaries vs. people with same YoE who went to an MBA and are in corporate now. Side note: I've seen this cohort has usually loved what they've done, and being in startups definitely has positively impacted their thought process. c. People who went to a corporate/big tech etc. mid way: This cohort has done the best long term. Their pay got recalibrated when they went to a larger company in the middle through their career, and when they rejoined startups, they were respected more in salary negotiation. This is to anybody out there who is a generalist and sees a similar path. Try to sandwich a proper, large company in your career. It gives you perspective on whether you like it and if startups is really your preferred route. And it also recalibrates your pay. Startups will limit you basis your last salary. Corporates have standards basis bands. Just something to think over. NOTE: Do share feedback, if this makes sense. And if you'd like to read more of these too.

Shall earn half money, work from home, be near family, see my parents getting old and take care of them. And not subscribe to this Bangalore hustle anymore. I am done with this!

Rant alert: Have you felt the same way? How many years of work ex after which you started feeling this way? Stability and money I’m grateful for. But I hate the constant comparison and competitiveness among peers/colleagues. Makes me want to quit and do a Teach for India fellowship. A little corporate detox. Wish I had become an athlete instead. I know it’s not an easy life, but It’s the kind of competitiveness I’m inclined towards. Not inclined towards the kind where you compete with people to please a company that will never care for you as a human. But people fail to recognise that, lose perspective, and lose themselves too. People have no class in this shitty world. If I have kids, they’re definitely becoming athletes and not entering this hellhole. Most ironically, I’m borderline considering an MBA to escape the corporate life for 2 years, but obviously I’m aware I will only get entrenched further in it due to the degree.

I am a student, and many people have suggested that a corporate job is a great career option. Can anyone explain what exactly a corporate job means? What does one need to do in a corporate job? Please explain in a very simple language because I do not get the professional lingo.

I want to share my experience as a fresher at Accenture, my first company from a college placement. The first six months were fine, but then I faced severe mental harassment from my supervisor and manager. She constantly criticized my work and gave negative feedback, causing me immense stress. I often skipped meals and worked weekends to improve, but nothing helped. Despite reporting the issue and requesting a supervisor change or a different track, my requests were ignored. The harassment worsened, affecting my physical health, and I couldn't eat or sleep properly. My manager controlled trivial aspects like where to sit and whom to talk to, making the situation unbearable. I was even forced to switch from a developer role to a tester, despite being trained as a developer. The final straw was being placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) without a clear reason, with the same harassing individuals assessing me. I only had 1.9 years of experience then. I reported the mental harassment to HR and resigned due to deteriorating health, panic attacks, and weight loss. Despite having no other job offer, I couldn't continue. Even during my notice period, I was forced to complete PIP assignments, which led to suicidal thoughts and further health issues. Now, I am jobless, feeling helpless and frustrated. With less than 2 of experience, I struggle to find offers in a down IT market and don't know what to do next.

Hi all, I'm (kind of) fresher into the corporate workforce, ~2yrs of work exp. What are some corporate etiquettes that a person like me should learn and/or be aware of?? It could anything but not limited to... from way of saying things to the things to be said to how to behave or how to work around/handle the power dynamics.

I am working in a founder's office role. Seekhne ko bahut kuch hain lekin kuch certainity nahin ki future mein kya hoga. Sochta hu CAT ke liye prepare karlu lekin time commit nahin kar pa raha alas ke chakkar mein. Ek khayal yeh bhi ata hain ki experience leke MBA karo jyada better hain ek khyal yeh bhi ata ki padhai ke saath lage lagaye aage ka ho jaye to better hain. Dosto se baat ab bahut kam ho gayi kyoki wo log bahut busy hain 😂. Bas aaplog batao kya chal raha.
