That’s pretty much the case in the US as well, leadership tries to maximise those on their side, and the quickest way to do it is eliminating those they cannot trust and bringing in someone with whom they have worked before.
The reason behind is to safeguard their job and justify their inflated salaries by eliminating any scope for raising questions.
If a org is hiring a leader, he is expected to deliver x in 2 years, the quickest way to build the team and deliver is ex colleagues. I don't know about laying off existing employees or partiality though.
Even with existing employees productivity possible, but no one pays inflated salaries to existing employees.
If lay offs are not allowed by org, they simply corner and suffocate to leave, then their loyals comes

Yes. Very well said. It happened in Reliance in 2016-17 when they wanted to implement e-commerce platform. All loyal and old employees(including myself) were not given hike purposely as a person from Target India was brought in and appointed in leader role. His hidden agenda was to bring people of his choice and say good bye to us which we came to know very late. Corporates simply close their eyes and watch this. Whereas these things won’t happen in Europe coz they have strict corporate laws.

Saw this happen in Rippling some time ago.
HR leader comes and sweet talks everybody with a nice guy attitude.
Cut to two months, he’s laid off pretty much the entire recruitment team. Hiring managers were furious apparently.
Last I heard, he left or was fired. Not sure.
I never knew this was a modus operandi until I saw it today !!!! I thought its common doing this.

Alright, time for names. Tejaswi, a b2b "sales leader" has followed this playbook in multiple organisations. They have a history of coming in, firing early sales employees who helped build the company, and then hiring their tribe and distributing the best leads to their cronies.

Pretty much every corporate company ....
This happened at cleartax too, one leader from Microsoft came and got all his retail buddies who thought enterprise selling is same as selling sims.
Ended up removing /creating an environment where 80% of the team left
