Desi folks working with people in the US suck at English! Why?

I've given interviews and have interviewed a lot of candidates over the past few years and never really came across this scenario when neither did I not the candidates break into having a conversation in the local language during a formal interview process. Came across one such candidate this week who was constantly breaking into Hindi within minutes after the self introduction and it got me really annoying after a point when they went full on Hindi. It was an hour long interview and TBH I couldn't sit through (lol!). I have a few questions to the community. 1. Is this really common? (location: Bangalore) How is it in the North? 2. Would you encourage someone to speak in a local language during the interview provided they have the right talent? (My requirement was for a business role and requires effective English communication. I would expect the candidate to have this basic understanding. Can't really mention good English communication required on the JD!) 3. Would you consider this either candidate's lethargy or were they trying to be friendly/strike a chord by leveraging Hindi? Some perspectives would help.

I don’t get the narrative of most south states to force their language on others. I mean people from different states in the north speak different native language i.e Punjabi, Haryanvi etc but still they can do the conversation in Hindi. Most of the people from Bangalore always come with the phrase “Go back to your state”. Someone please tell them that we are living in their state as we don’t have much choice. Also, almost 70% of their employment comes from people like us. IT companies should expand their operations in cities like Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Noida. What do you guys think about this unwelcoming nature of some local bangalore people?

Does that mean the hiring bar us high in us? I simply don't understand, like these people were studying with me and they didn't know shit and you don't get enough time in us to ramp up skill levels. So is it that basically it's easier in the USA?

Previously I worked in Persistent Systems for 2 years. Recently my hr called me to share the screen and resign. They have given me 7 days time to submit laptop and all the assets, leave the company. I just want to understand can't we do anything if they asked to do force resign. Because I have been in this company for 2 years, past 6 months they started doing this for atleast 40 employees per month only from my branch Hyderabad . Now it has become per week because they don't have projects and lot of projects are going to end in few months and already few projects moved out because when I spoked with senior in the company they are saying projects signed for 5 year's contract has now not interested to move. I asked why because of internal company politics, favouritism, fake and backdoor employees, over commitment due to these projects are not delivered in given deadline. How employees Will look for another oppurtunity in 7 days, also in my case when said to my recruiter that I am laid off they didn't schedule interview call then I changed my plan started saying them that I am having offer of A from x company going to join in next 15 days, then they shared scheduling interview. Won't there be any legal action we can take on employer as an employee in this cases.

I have worked in 2 Indian-born startups, one of which has its branch in US and Europe. Almost everyday I have to reach out to folks both in India and in US to ask questions and get details regarding technical features. Now, whenever I reach out to people in India, they all have this rude attitude while replying back. For example: if I ask a very detailed question they often don't respond back. Sometimes it takes 2 days, 2 followups to respond. Example: As a new joiner I asked a dev "is there is any docs regarding certain product feature. If not could you point me to the PM or EM who worked on it?" He took 2 days to respond and his response was "NO". Just No. He didn't even read the full text. 🤷🏻 In my 10 year experience, almost 5 in 10 indian employees behave this way. Whenever I reach out to US folks, ofcourse they take time to respond but when they do they provide most of the info on slack; whom to reach, how to get access. They seem to have the courtesy to actually help. I get it, we all are busy with stuff. But shouldn't we have a basic courtesy to atleast respond respectfully? Why is this need to act superior to others?

Not an Anti India or Indian hating post but I work in sales and I’ve discovered that Indians act so entitled as if they’re some high and mighty royals who have transcended from heavens above when interacting with anyone who’s calling them after they themselves requesting for it. Half the times these dumb clowns can’t even articulate 2 sentences together in English and struggle to understand what you try and tell them but act like they know it all. We’ve got to clean up our act as customers and human beings before we make a bigger mockery of ourselves than what’s already out there. No wonder we’re categorised as the cheap hooligan crowd outside.

In my org people have been creating that vibe where they are very sophisticated about their actions, the way they speak etc, they behave like we are working in a US based startup where they are using western lingo and all together a different way to communicate. I have worked in other startups in other cities but didn’t find this type of culture. Is this common or am I missing something? What are your thoughts?
