It's been almost two years since I have been working for a startup and I report to a founder. The work has been quite remote and the teams collaborate remotely. How often should I have one to one sessions with my manager? The last time we had a one to one was during my appraisal which happened a year ago post which we never met 1:1. However, we meet once a week on a group staff meetings which is driven on a specific business agenda? Is this something healthy?

We start the day with meetings, we end the day with a meeting, and in between there are thousands if not hundreds of 
"Can we get on a quick call?", 
"Let's have a meeting to discuss the agendas", 
"Are you available for a 5 mins meet?", 
"Can you join in on _____", 
stand up, sit down, roll over, turn around, blah blah blah (you get the idea)!

Most meetings would have been an email. Sadly many don't/can't write!

If meetings would have been so important, why would anyone be doing any actual work!

This is the biggest problem with VC ecosystem 4 yoe kids taking calls on experienced, hardworking founders. Dude first learn the game then invest , judge people playing the game. VCs know nothing about how to run startups. Unless they have been entrepreneurs themselves. IMO It's a colossal waste of talent to become a VC for young PPL.

How do you guys approach to completing your tasks which are adjusted to be completed in 40 hours (or whatever amount of time is standard in your company) when 25% of the time goes in meetings and calls only?

Last two months had been great, I was consistently building a morning routine. Included little fitness too.
Happy how my body felt energetic.
Until one day, "I didn’t feel like getting up"
Two weeks, Schedule is back to groggy mornings, skipped breakfast, put on visible fat

Work has got shittier.
My day starts with 2 hours of compulsory, back-to-back meetings, followed by more 1-O-1s through the day. 
The meetings are just crying how things are bad, not working out, employees are not putting efforts, revenue is down, sales is not performing, clients are leaving - 3 hours later, we still haven't got a action plan. What's the use?

This wasn’t meant to be a rant. 
Just that cannot tell people to fuck off.
I feel should tell a part of me to fuck off too.

How do you overcome low days? (Indian parents term for being "lazy")

My stakeholders are boderline dumb. They want to meet for every small thing. No async comms. And they want you to meet in office. 

How to gently tell them that they’ve a brain, and they can write and explain the same problem.

How to reduce meetings with stakeholders?

I've had the fortune of having worked in 3 countries so far. India is by far the most exciting place to be in 2024.
But there's something about our work ethic that just concerns me. In both white and blue collar.

In most other countries, I've observed people strictly sticking to the 9 to 5, working diligently in those hours - not wasting too much time on chai sutta breaks, instagram browsing, gupshup etc.

They work for 8 hours, then leave. And think about work directly the next day.

In India, most of us spend more hours - but very obviously very few of those hours are productive. In fact, I lately feel that too many people around me are doing even 2-3 hours of work on a good day.

We end up just staying around, passing time, and then go back home. When we could have achieved so much more.

Work ethic has fallen. Work hours have gone up.

We need to be more mindful of our actions, we need to work well at work, and then do well at home.

I think it's a function of being over populated. There are 1.5-2 people doing what 1 person should be doing, hence this effect.

Needs to be fixed, it's the sign of a major problem in the workforce. Thoughts?

Disguised unemployment in India - It's all around us :/

We don't end up staying long hours because we need to. But because we have to, so that the manager doesn't feel like we leave the office by "half day".  
  Also, they have a leverage that they can shut their laptops at 5 and nobody will reach out to them. But here in India, managers do reach out for escalations, or make us attend lat evening calls because it's afternoon in Europe or morning in NA. The people sitting in Europe or NA are not made to wake up early or attend night calls to accommodate us during our actual 9-5.  
  People also chit chat etc. bcz they know for sure that they have to sit for long hours..so they need to take small breaks in the day. No one has the capacity to work 10-11 hrs without any breaks.  
  Here it would never be possible to have such a strict 9-5.

What's the worst company you have worked for?

ICICI Bank, they had a strict sign in timing policy where if you are late to corporate office, half day salary would be cut, It would be reversed only when manager approves. The sign out time used to be 5.15pm, but you would be made to sit till 8 pm by most of the managers even if your job is done for the day. A sign out at 6 pm used to be called as half day by most of the managers. 
 I heard now they donot have this dictatorial policy.

I have a couple recurring (weekly+biweekly) meetings on my calendar. Today I got a peek at a mid-leader's calendar at my company, this bloke had at least 5-7 recurring meetings every week, he/she forgot his/her screen was still visible to all.

My stance is: sometimes I look forward to catching up other times it's just like ticking a checkbox of corporate things to do.

Let me show you something, this is how these companies are treating their employees even in a full time remote role, they think if they hire someone and give them salary they can make them do whatever they want. One of my friends is working in some MNC and they are pushing their work hours everyday single day like 5-6 hours like its no big deal that too with no compensation/flexi leaves, one day they sent this link of Google meet 11:30 am to 5:30 am (18 hours) and then they starting doing this everyday, its like we were practically living at work, with bosses expecting them to pull 18-hours shifts like it's no big deal. And when he finally spoke up about it, they accused him of not being flexible enough. So, when the project was finished they laid him off by saying that he is not flexible n all, How can anyone flexible of working 18 or 15 or 12 hours. This kind of toxicity is happening even in big companies.
Remote role doesn't mean that you will sit on my head , make me join some 18 hour meet link and then do the tasks while being in the meeting so that the PM can interrupt me whenever he feels like it with his idiotic comment of:
"is it done"?

I’m currently working for a big bank for a little bit over a year and I want to switch departments internally but finding it relatively difficult. 
I am currently working in the frauds department and I intend to switch into a risk/controls/strategy role but do not know what exactly do I need to do for that. 
Any folks who maybe made a switch into these departments from a different one would be kind enough to guide a lost soul like me? Your suggestions would really be appreciated.
