Reached Google as a lifelong failure student 👨🏻‍💻

I am originally from a small town and did my BSc in Computer Science. My relatives and neighbours used to say that I am a good for nothing freeloader who is a "nikamma" - unemployed. It was very hard to find a job back then and I used to have deep anxiety about it. My only dream was to get my fathers appreciation. He is my biggest hero. So I started preparing very hard and practiced my skills. The only one who supported me was my mother who used to give me tea even at 3 in the morning while I used to study. Even my own father gave up on me and from time to time he used to say that if you are living under my roof then you have to follow my rules. He also used to say that look at the neighbour's ladka who got a government job and he asked me to prepare for Bank PO. So I moved out from my town and shifted to Gurgaon where I got a small PG with some money that my mother had given me. I also started freelancing on Fiverr and which led me to improve my communication skills. Finally, when I got my Google offer letter I felt like I made it. It was the best response to all the taunts by people around me. I suddenly became a superstar in my town with people congratulating my parents. I bought my mother gold bangles and dad a new watch with my first salary. I was looking at my offer letter today and it reminded me of all the hardwork I did to achieve this moment. This is the story of my life. In case anyone needs help. I am ready to provide support to aspirants here as a way to give back.

During my B.Tech, I balanced my studies with active participation in clubs and committees, and also engaged in sports and exploration. Aspiring for a non-core placement, I didn't participate in hackathons or apply for internships. After graduation, I pursued various paths, including preparing for the CAT exam with only three months of preparation time, but I didn't succeed. I then applied to several companies for data analytics roles but kept making new mistakes in each attempt. In one instance, I was rejected for oversharing my passion for data science in a final interview. To improve my chances, I optimized my resume and completed significant projects, but these efforts haven't yet yielded the desired results. Realizing the challenges of relying on a single target, I also started preparing for the GATE exam. Reflecting on my journey, I recognize that I should have applied for on-campus opportunities, as off-campus job hunting is challenging and unpredictable, regardless of one's preparation. As I'm entering a new stage of life, I'm starting to reevaluate my career priorities. In my 20s, I was all about climbing the ladder and chasing prestige. Now, I'm more focused on finding work that aligns with my values and allows for a balanced lifestyle. Have any of you gone through a similar shift? How did it change your career trajectory? And how do you define success for yourself now versus when you first started out?

I am a 25 yr old male and I come from a very small town in Jharkhand. My dad was a mechanic. I am their only son. I graduated from a tier 3 college where getting any job was a dream. I worked hard and cleared a 9 LPA job in Pune. Got promoted and got hikes and came to around 13 LPA in around a year’s time. Resigned it for Amazon, BLR at 30 LPA. I joined in Oct 22 and got laid off in Jan 23. When I cleared Amazon, it was moment of pride for me and my parents. For the first time everything looked well and life felt happy and promising. It was just perfect. After the layoff, life has been full of struggle. It was so difficult to get a job. Somehow got a decent company who would at least hire me without reducing my pay, but had to deal with a pathetic manager, and the culture wasn’t too good. Joined here for ~34 LPA I finished 1 year in this company this April and I started to interview. Started with a startup, they said they can’t offer that much. Next was MSFT. They took 8 ROUNDS for a SE2 role and they offered me a L60 role and won’t budge at all, for a lower comp. I had to reject. In the meantime, I had already cleared Intuit at 50 LPA and DE Shaw at around 60 LPA. DE Shaw HM told me this role is SDET which the recruiter didn’t mention. Had to reject there. I resigned after I cleared Intuit and expected MSFT to give me an offer and I was sure that whatever comp they’ll offer I’ll take, but didn’t expect them to give me L60 and a comp around 29 LPA. When Intuit’s joining came close I considered taking my resignation back but my manger bullied me and didn’t take my resignation back. I got a chance to interview with Apple. It was so close to Intuit’s joining date that I asked Intuit to push it by 3 weeks. After 5 rounds, Apple said they can’t go ahead with my profile because of less experience. Folks trust me: All my interviews at MSFT and Apple went very very well. When I made up my mind to join Intuit, they announced lay offs. My only option is to join.

Layoffs are bad I know, but there's always a silver lining Now since that's in the past, we can ponder what was good
