Most conversations I've had with folks across multiple companies where re-orgs are taking place have been in agreement that most of it feels arbitrary and folks are treated no better than some random commodity which is being allocated to some other section.

Hey Hey People. I've been in PM-ship for 4 years, and I have been jumping (unfortunately) from one sinking ship to another. Since Startups started going belly up, I've been switching but not able to keep up with the absolute abuse of 14-16 hour workdays including weekends.

I am looking for some guidance or advice on how to switch to a "safer" company in which I can stay and build my career for the next 3-4 years. I've almost run through the gauntlet of 3 companies in the last two years and feel absolutely burnt to a crisp.  Whether it be policies, workplace politics ( main reason for quitting the last 2 orgs) or culture, I am simply not able to go through the wringer. 

I want to switch to a place where I can do Product + Analytics but have a safer moat of a learning curve. Most startups lack any documentation or training and it's very disastrous when shit hits the fans because no one has any idea or documentation on what works. Pile up abusive micromanagement and valour thievery into the equation as well. 

I'm simply burnt out to death and I feel this shit hitting me in my skull every living second. I want to be in a place where I am able to perform and learn more (not breakneck) stable pace.

How to switch from Startup Hells to MNCs.

We are seeing news of lay-offs from many companies- in India as well as RoW; Being at the receiving end of it is utterly painful. But who is to blame? 

Hindsight is always 20/20; So in the current moment, we can go about and blame the management for overhiring and now firing.

But since a lot us would get into similar shoes over time, would love to know how others would have done it differently.

When the market was kind and capital was cheap, companies/functions/leaders wanted to experiment with every or more ideas having some potential. They wanted to test every market (in terms of geo expansion) and if they wouldn’t competitors would. Definitely some experiments become successful while some fail. There would have been a pressure from Investors which would have translated to internal pressures.

Even most of us were just shifting jobs for money without even having conviction in business models of companies we were joining.

Who to blame? Investors for seeking growth or CEOs to not have enough hindsight or experience to know such times will come or functional leaders to comply to wishes of their management? Or us to fall into unsustainable greed trap?

But now it is about survival. Cutting off vestigial or infected organs vs letting the whole org die. What would you have done differently in the shoes of these CEOs?

What would you do in similar position?

So last year March i got laid off. Was there with the company for more than 5 years. Was told they are restructuring the org. I was devastated, though i wanted to move much before, but company did not cut pay or jobs during the peak pandemic, so i thought ill stick around for some more time. Next thing i know boom gone. I have taken a break since then almost did nothing.it's more than a year but anxiety of shitty boss, long hours work is hitting me even harder as i apply for jobs. Don't know how the market is going treat me.

Huh! So i resigned from my job without any job offer. I am not sure if this is right/wrong, dumb decision maybe but i was at my saturation point. I joined this organisation as APM in April 2024 and resigned in September end, almost a 6 months of journey. This was a fast faced startup with a lot of micromanagement and toxicity. My manager was an asshole. There was a time when i was filling time sheets which was just to justify my manager. Imagine a product manager filling time sheet who is already involved in multiple small and large discussion with tech,qa, marketing, operations etc. The shift was of 9 hours and he asks me to stretch to 10 hrs sometimes as he as a bad habbit of same. There is much more. One day due to an instance i decided to resign without any job offer. My family did supported me which also gave me the confidence to do so. I don’t know what to say to next companies. When will I get a new job. Just wanted to share this somewhere and thought of putting it up here. Open for all your thoughts and comments. Also,Let me know if anybody could help me in any referrals😅preferably in Delhi ncr- Hybrid/wfh.

I joined infosys in oct - 2022 and now it’s been 1.8 months. My tech stack is MEAN stack but I was on bench through the year, recently got into a project but for only 4 months. I developed and learned by my own and gained a better knowledge on angular.
Now the situation my company has made for me that I need to switch asap, within a month or two.

Can anyone suggest me how to prep specifically so that I get offers from other company.

My DSA skills are gone and feel like I need to learn again from basics.
I have knowledge about angular.

Can anyone suggest me how much DSA I should learn and focus right now to clear interviews.
I’m planning to get a grasp over python and start doing DSA questions in that plus polishing my angular skills too. 
I have basic knowledge of node.js MongoDb too.

Will I’ll be able to switch within this time frame?

Please can anyone guide me through it so that I can plan smartly and can switch.

If it's really bad, which department you think is the most affected? How's layoffs specifically in India? Or is it layoffs in US but more hiring in India due to cost cutting? 

Are layoffs in technology/engineering dept as in for developers or some other departments? Your thoughts please..

It is really bad right now 
 1. Layoffs in many of the companies, irrespective of whether they're a startup or a big MnC. 
 2. Almost everyone I know of wants to switch, because of no/less appraisals from last 2 years 
 3. Bad work life balance - people thinks switching might help 
 4. Too much competition for any open position. Because of too much supply, companies are low-balling and people would accept the offer.  
  
 Recruiters ghosting is too common. Even if you've killed in your interviews and recruiters get someone who's ready to join on less pay, they'll simply ghost you.

I’ve observed that there is no empathy anymore. People are being asked to do double the amount of work in my org. I think they are taking advantage of the current market and just being cocky. I’m also listening this from my friends in other companies. Did you observe something similar ?

I have been part of one company for 9 years. I feel like bored and mundane.  I am trying to switch jobs for past one and half year and unable to crack any interviews. Each interview slips because of some reason. Now my current company based on my performance asked me to find job somewhere else within in few months.. I am still unable to clear interviews.. Sometimes feel very downward because of this but deep inside I feel like I am more worth than this.. Market is also so uncertain now.. My salary is 32L.. I feel like I am stuck in my career. Any advice or recommendation?

So, I'm a graduate from BBA and I'm working with a small to medium sized organization with around 200 people.

I'm a guy.

It's in Education Sector.

I joined right after my graduation. The first year, I did nothing so I was given a formality hike of 5k. They offered me 20k initially p.m.
Now my 2nd year working here is completed so now, I have done more than 25 major roles which no one can do.

That makes up work of more than 20+ people.

Now that i asked for a raise, they are saying they are in losses and they don't have the budget and shit.

The only reason I'm working here is that I love the Manager aka Director.

He has been like a mentor, when I was facing hardship, he has given me money without even a second thought.

I have been discussing this with him.

Now he was saying the organization might increase my salary to 30k. I'm like the fuck are you even speaking.

I really don't wanna leave the organization because of this person at the same time I don't wanna stay in an organization which doesn't give an absolute crap about me.


Please tell me what shall I do.

These are the points I raised:

1. I need to get paid for the value I give. I have done more than 20+ peoples works. Even if you hire some incompetent people, the time, value and efforts would cost more than to pay me.

His counter: Treat this organization as a cost-cutting and work with me on other businesses and which he offered me to compensate with if I work there

My thought: if I work here, and get compensates there. What about the work do there? How will I be compensated?

2. We are ready to pay more to people who do jackshit work but we have policies to people who actually do work?
They have gone over the budget for people who talked big and did absolute shit.

His counter: We are in losses and we might not have the budget

My thought: So we are doing cost cutting by hiring shitty people for more money and compensating it by paying the valuable people jackshit?

Not at a pod or charter level - like higher level where the head of product suddenly leaves or is asked to leave.

This usually happens with all the team members re-staffed to other division.

I'm currently feeling insanely stuck in my current role, craving more challenging and fulfilling work. While I do get some tasks, they are not even worth using a few braincells. I am losing my sanity here and the pay is meh compared to the other good companies.

What are some good companies to apply? Making this post cause market has been shifting insanely for past years and I am confused on current dynamic, for eg. been seeing a lot of LinkedIn dudes saying to avoid it with the recent layoffs and cut down of the benefits. 

Looking for some ok WLB, good benefits, better pay. Sorry for the vague question, did not know where else to go
