How do you think restructuring/re-orgs be managed? Should folks right till the lowest level be involved in some capacity in the decision making. Most conversations I've had with folks across multiple companies where re-orgs are taking place have been in agreement that most of it feels arbitrary and folks are treated no better than some random commodity which is being allocated to some other section.
Can't do anything positive to the company can it🤔

Amids layoffs and recessions, has your company become more toxic that it used to be?

What was the first sign that your company might be doing layoffs? 
Was it a random meeting addressed by CEO or some other shit?

What was the first sign of layoff?

• First you are asked to present a plan for next quarter in a week's time
 • You come up with some random things to present
 • You are  told that the the targets (impact) are too low and given an unrealistic target.
 • You present an unrealistic plan for the revised target.
 • You are asked to get the stuff done in even less time and plan for it.
 • Every month you're asked as to why the initiatives are not giving expected impact.
 • At the end of the quarter you are asked (humiliated) why you're not able to deliver on the plan that you yourself made
 • You are asked to present plans for the next quarter next week
 • the cycle just repeats

1.	Over the last 2 months, the Chief Business Officer, Head of Marketing, and Head of Enterprise have been laid off.

2.	CEO has surrounded himself with 3-4 Yes Men/Women who have no expertise in the respective domains that they are currently looking at (being called as Founder’s Office staff – but are basically playing the role of glorified postmen/women)

3.	Rest of the senior leadership has been demoted for all practical purposes and all business decisions are taken in weekend meetings between the CEO, and his close friend (who is also acting as the CBO currently)

4.	Work culture has become so toxic that employees across levels are either looking out or jumping ship or even resigning without offers in hand

5.	There is a ton of investor pressure on the CEO to start showing tangible revenue – classic case of raising money at bloated valuations with no business model in place

What are the biggest disadvantages of working in FAANG acc to you?

According to me:
1. Company leadership says A (which is something I most of the time agreed with), but I kept seeing middle management do B.
2. More and more processes and red tape. I did not like the direction the company was developing (I was in a sensitive org, so we had a lot of lawyers etc to begin with, but it got overbearing)
3. Promotions are extremely formulaic and at times I felt like an ape trying to tick 10 check boxes in a half.

It's getting dirtier by the day and sure some orgs are still up to their dirty tricks.

The models:
- Appraise and then Lay Off: Why bother putting bandaid on a stab wound? Anyways the folks are going to fight how to answer the ..why were you laid off war, and now you are adding another twist.. why were you appraised and then laid off?
- Low appraisals to force quit: Undervalue them so they leave on their own. It’s a leeches way to cut costs. Kill morale 100%. Severance penny spent $0.
- Trap them in PIP: Dress it up however you want - very very few escape this death sentence.
- Silent treatment: No assignments, No meetings. Watch them spiral into anxiety and leave to save their sanity.
- Workload overload: Drown them in work until they break. No need for layoffs list until they make it to your collapse list first.
- Strategic reorg: Re-organize them out of existence. Offer a demotion or a proxy role in a random team that you know they dont want as an alternative. 
- Sudden policy changes: oh! I have seen so many I can't keep up with this one. 
New policies that make their life hell. People leave to escape your pettiness.
- Mandatory relocation: Demand they move to an undesirable location. Then you treat remote employees like outsiders. Exclude them from key projects, conversations until they feel like foster care kids, second-class citizens. You know the outcome from there on.
- Use the "Culture Fit" excuse: Call out how they’re not a culture fit. Vague, unchallengeable, and forces them out without severance.

And don't sell me "the org has got to do what it has got to do to survive" line. I don't buy that
If you have seen this being done, I understand your silence, but I don't value it.
If this has been done to you or someone close to you, I am sorry. Orgs and the people failed you. 
We could be 1000x better than what we are operating as.

Manager: Have ESOPs we will do buy back in next year and like I have gotten 2-3 ESOPs but no real money hike.

Never join startups where there is no organisational structure whatsoever if youre coming from a very structured experience. My mind is just fried being at the same level for a year now doing everything I can.

So, my company just started publishing salary ranges for all positions internally. It's been... interesting, to say the least. 

Some people are thrilled about the transparency, while others are pretty upset about what they've learned. It's definitely changed the vibe around the office. Has anyone else experienced this kind of wage transparency? 

I'm really curious how it affects team dynamics and motivation in the long run.

I am a 2022 grad and 1yr into my corporate life and I have stopped liking software engineering. I took software engineering as a career because for the love of it but after experiencing the office politics and constant mundane work I have lost my zeal.

We are always caught between the CTO and the Manager not being on the same page and redoing a lot of our work. For the past 1yr we have been migrating the same stuff to different platforms. No innovative work, no recognition for good work.

Is this normal in the corporate world?

Also I am thinking of taking a break as I want to focus on my health. Is it a good idea to take a break now for 3-5 months and then get back to working again?

When will the undeclared Hire Freeze gonna end? Most companies have been saying they will fix an interview, and ask me dates as well. But the expected meeting email will never come. It's not about rejections, companies filter soley via expected salary in the first step.

In addition to this, companies arent preferring candidates who are ok to relocate as well.

FYI: Ive been looking for APM role for past 2 months. Fine with generalists roles as well. Appreciate with any leads.
