With appraisal conversations round the corner, wanted to know the most absurb feedback you’ve received from your manager?
Take more team initiatives/engage in culture building stuff to grow further… fuck that shit!

You’ll realise very quickly that you need to get people along to go far anywhere in life. The only way to be an IC and still succeed is if you’re an investor. And that’s just succeeding financially.
Well this hold for promotions but not appraisal. What logic is 'as you aren't extroverted and dont make rangoli with the team or drink till you puke your guts out with the team i am going to give cut 25k monthly as a penalty' .

Showcase more and more of my projects to Leadership Team. Although you delivered, leadership doesn’t know about it and I won’t be getting a promotion or a decent hike.
I thought it was my manager’s work to do internal marketing for me, literally they’re getting paid for doing that
Every Indian manager told me this exact thing. Once I asked my manager that she should help her team with marketing and it's her job. She replied that it's my carrier I should do this. She is doing for herself. She got promotion in 2 months.

I am a fresher so for me it was Not Eligible, but to some of my colleagues it has been said that - " There is an issue in the backend, so we are unable to give you higher ratings 🤣"

My old Cognizant Manager wanted his favourite to get a better grade. He downgraded me and told me it happened because of 'BUGS' in the appraisal system.
You are getting the best appraisal in the team, pls do not disclose it to others 😂
It causes heartburn. You don't want your colleagues to be jealous of you and feel bad about themselves. I got high number after the 1st covid wave while company didn't do regular appraisals. They wanted to keep me 😊
As you move up.. You would be talking more and hands on less. Thus speaking and active participation in discussion will help. When you are in grp of friends - you would be actively talking right. Same thing is expected and welcomed at office too

You didn't have enough visibility in 6 months. Bhai mere mujhe join karte hi critical projects mein daal diya and successfully complete karne ke baad bhi yeh sunne mila.
Seems they need visibility of some other kind. 😆
This one sucks. If they could’ve already said that no matter what x months won’t be enough for your appraisal.. We could do what’s mentally right for us.
Criticality of a resource/project is not proportional to visibility. If u had critical projects.. Do ensure to send high number of emails or documents etc.. Creating good noise is always good for career growth. During appraisal discussion these emails / documents serve as proof and gets easier for manager to make a case foe you. Remember the kid that cries the most gets the most attention from the parents

No appraisals due to US recession ;(
Mine was, You are asking more doubts and that is not expected so you are to be put in pip.
Asking doubts or seeking high amount of guidance? The latter is a problem after being in a workatream for over 3 months
They don't follow any clear process here and jump right at the solution, so during implementation if we get any additional doubts then it becomes a problem.
If you get stuck and don't ask then they will say you are wasting time instead of asking the team and if you ask the team even then it fires back at.

My manager told me I gave you 4 rating, but after normalisation it has come down to 3. So my raise was bare minimum.
Now just after a month, threatening me with next appraisal cycle, and I was like bhai aise normalisation wali company me rukna bhi nahi hai 🫡
When they don't have any negative things as a fact , they take out some recent work of yours and start pointing out errors in that... Bhai mere tu poore saal kaa appraisal kar Raha hai yaaa peechle 2 mahine kaa ...
Utter bullshit n crap system...

Took my comments on goals but the manager did not provide feedback for the past 1.5 months. Last date to provide feedback is 31 March

Not recent feedback, but feedback I got in a previous gaming company:
1. I was told: You’ve put in a lot of effort and it shows, but there has not been enough impact and that’s what we are looking for.
2. My colleague and senior was told: You’ve driven impact, but we don’t see you put in as much into the business from an effort point of view
1 - impact matters simple. Unless your manager is an a** there is no person who can stop after giving effort and impact to the work stream.
2 - it is difficult for a manager to establish the reason (the Main spoc) who drove that impact. You can ve part of high impact projects but what was ur role.? There would be 10 people claiming the same impact. It is always good to let your manager know what role u played. The manager here lost to the question - what did the senior folk did in this project (the manager didn't had enough to convince the folks in thw room)
