Do you also hate how FAANG transforms smart people into trash engineers?
I have noticed that the best people from my college got into FAANGMULA companies and ultimately trashed their mind while making great money. Their tech development has literally grown slower than living in a buddhist monastery. Their stunted learning is a strict reminder of how people get trashed into bad engineers with good money. Ultimately you can't even switch companies because no one will hire you at your ZIRP salary while you can't even be 20% of your CTC in terms of productivity.
How is this copium?
I have seen something very similar happen to "some' friends where the destination was reaching FAANG and not growing in FAANG. In the end, it is an approach that unfortunately works

You seem to be like someone who wishes they got into FAANG but ended up in GE doing some IT support work.

If anyone wants to grow from a technical stack wise, joining Faang will be the stupidest decision of their career. They are already mature companies so processes will be needed to be followed. It is how it is.

Exactly and people fail to understand that cutting edge innovation is only possible in 3 places:
1. R&D labs
2. VC funded startups with small teams working on super niche problems.
3. University Labs
Otherwise we are just code monekys.
I have worked at both startups and big tech and the docs do come in clutch when something goes wrong.
A big company with a large user base can’t really afford to have high severity bugs and has a very little room to experiment, hence processes are introduced.
Startups on the other hand will give you ample opportunities to learn and grow but then peace / calm and wlb are absent.
Another issue I have seen at startups is that in the name of pace a lot of decisions can be taken without taking into account the long term impact (I know long term impact comes with longevity of the business) which result in bad code and other myraid of problems.
Siachen mein hamare Jawan lad rhe hai aur tum yahn AC mein baith ke chota sa bug solve krne mein frustrate hogye
Thats true. It converts IIT/NIT grads to psychological idiots. I am fed up of working with these type of people and planning to switch soon.
