Do you regret moving abroad or not moving abroad?
I’m currently regretting staying back in India, especially with the constant comparisons to my successful cousins who moved abroad. Despite having a good income and a comfortable lifestyle, I can’t shake the feeling that I might have had a better life – pollution-free, maybe tax-free, and less stressful, had I moved. On the flip side, I worry about whether moving abroad would actually work out for me. Would my children grow up without any culture? Without having a bond with their grandparents? Will I be okay with my parents growing old alone? I’m in a bit of a pickle and looking for stories from both sides.
One more factor you can consider is - Health!
Two of my friends moved back as they weren’t able to focus on their health abroad (strange! Yes). Here you can outsource some stuff and use the same time to workout everyday. Health services aren’t too difficult to get as well.
Very valid feeling. But it's very easy to get carried away with the flashy success stories of people who move abroad(like you mentioned your cousins).
Settling in a different country is no easy feat. No matter how much you earn, you'd still feel like an outsider. And tax-free?? I mean yes, if your talking about countries like Dubai... but you have to pay buttloads of taxes if you're living in Europe or the US. And it's never "less stressful" because you literally need to manage everything on your own.
About the children and parents part, you may need to consider as per situations. But if you want to grow in your career and it's your top priority, you should definitely give Moving abroad a shot. It really changes your perspective and is crucial for a holistic development.
