I think this is common. A fresher thinks his seniors are idiots out of sync, when he becomes a senior and understands why things function thatbway, there is a junior who thinks he is an idiot and out of sync.

They think they know everything. Due to this they do not feel respecting the senior in team. I am not focusing about the senior by age but experience.
In the latest AI age, they hace access to solution for every doubt. This makes them arrogant and they don’t want to get mentored as well.

I know many oldies who should be fired immediately. Forget tech, they are not even able to manage teams properly. 

Even so called "Seniors/Leads" don't know how to be one, if you question them, somehow it hurts their ego and you need to follow/respect them because they were born earlier ?

Tech should be limited to max till 12 years of work experience only, rest should transition into some other career, start your own startup or business or something but don't be an employee in a big company.

Came across a scenario multiple times while searching for senior engineer jobs. I felt that in majority of the cases if the interviewer was from IIT, no matter how much experienced they are they always have a particular style of putting you down during coding or system design type of interviews where they have high acceptance to bookish answer rather than having an open mind to other solutions which can be discussed in details and probably has a far more chances of evaluating a candidate on core thinking and logical skills rather. What do you think? Have you also faced similar scenario?

Why do many IITians do dick measuring contest during interviews?

I have heard/ read so many companies blindly hiring and promoting IITians to roles they are not suited for.
Many young grads are given manager roles, and they know sh*t about people management. just push all work to juniors.

How are Founders not able to see through this?

Talked to the son of my Dad's friend recently. Brilliant kid has a good GPA from IIIT-H + 2 research internships and 1 summer internship at good companies. He still can't find a "good" company to get into. 
(Side Note: "good" implies a high paying job relative to last couple of years)

Apparently, most of his friends in other colleges are in the same boat. Massive pay correction has happened.

The undergoing rationale is that companies hired Class of 2022 with no restraint because the demand was really strong during their placement season in 2021. This appears to be directly correlated with quantitative easing in the US and a low interest rate environment that was conducive to fundraising for several Series A+ startups.

By the time Class of 2022 entered the market, everything changed and they felt some short term change. However, Class of 2023 is having a much tougher time. They are shoved into the job market in a time where demand is low and they are competing with kids who graduated last year. 

Ongoing consensus appears to be that a huge chunk of their batchmates are going to get their Masters abroad. Their hope is that by the time they graduate out of grad school, the economy will pick up and demand will be strong while they're poised to take advantage of that with bump up credentials.

Unfortunately, this also implies that many of them will end up in the CPT-OPT-H1B-Green Card hell.

This is really a tough spot to be in.

Not sure you folks will agree with me, but people in IT especially the one's in senior positions (Director level) guys are running companies in 2024 but their thought process is somewhere stuck in the late 90's/early 2000's. 
They feel like what they have experienced or what they have been through is applicable in the current generation too. Be it from the perspective of working long hours or when having discussions around respectable increments/promotions. If we start giving them reasons as to how things are not working out they will end up going like "In our times it was difficult to get even 8% hike, We worked extra hours, we had limited access to technology etc etc".
How hard is it for them to realise that we live in the 21st century? Things have changed rapidly in the past 15-20 years from when they were working in the market. It's difficult to even convince them on anything as they have already made up their mind on how world was working, how it should work and how it will work in the future. 
Hope I was clear enough, but this is a serious problem in today's MNC (Sadly in some of the well performing startups)

Generation gap or mindset difference?

I have gone through this idk about others but many may have gone through this phase when your manager or senior just tells you in some what inglorious manner

Asking doubts as an freshman and junior

There has been a huge influx of posts dissing roles like Product, Marketing, HR etc. by Techies.

Every other post, or comment is made by them undermining the value of other depts and these cuties think business runs just by their sub-par code.

I understand that their delusion stems from the fact they get paid huge salaries by loss making companies. Which is bound to crash sooner or later.

Why are Techies so delusional?

Seeing so many founders who doesn’t want to hire from IIT is just increasing and I fully support this.

IITs are not the super smart people that they used to be. Now they are mostly test takers and that’s it with no innovation or anything.

Using pedigree to get into jobs and raising funds are gone. IIT is not a sign for anything and the badge doesn’t matter anymore.

Good luck to my friends who actually deserve it from IIT or not. I know there are actually great people who are in IIT but just don’t make IIT your entire personality.

Arrogant IITs not getting jobs

I have a strong passion in tech. I’m almost a nerd. The thing is, I never wanted to study the conventional indian way and therefore I don’t have a good academic record. 
10th : 8.8 gpa
12th: 71 %
Joined a civil course even though i loved tech, regretted and moved to another university after completing 2 years of civil.
Completed graduation with a degree in ECE and an 8.1 GPA due to covid.

My professional record is quite average with a 12.65 LPA offer as an SDE, 1 YOE.

The thing is, I crave money.  The current market situation and the opportunities available currently does not seem decent for me to switch and get a 20~30 LPA job.

Therefore I am considering higher studies. I need some advice from people who have been there and done that.

Is MS from Us/Canada/anywhere worth it?

Context: I had put out a message seeking newer projects, and a certain person reached out.
They have over 20+ yrs of exp and run their own boutique consultancy. 
The role they had envisioned fit perfectly that I was looking for. 

Interview: We spoke over an hour, discussing the role, my top skills that would be beneficial, future prospects, where I see myself beyond work. Genuinely good conversation. 

The person concludes the Interview and I quote
"Now that I have met you, I can definitely say the pictures you have over your social media and website do not do justice to how you look. You have many photogenic angles that you should explore"

Shock was understatement 

I steered the conversation towards how it is essential for my personal brand building and I have it in my consideration. (I believe I handled it well)

P.S. Anyone who supports this because it was just appreciating beauty - wrong place wrong time and also wrong person.

I saw post from Sunil Shetty on linkedin.

My take is, when pandemic hit companies asked employees to WFH to keep wheel rolling.
Now we know WFH can give greater control over personal and professional life(at least for me) we don’t want to go back to office.

In my opinion corporate want us to work from office cause,

- they can control our time, 9hrs in ofc, you are getting paid for time not skills.
- they want to show who is the boss here.
- Learning is key reason for WFO, bullshit, we have a lot of learning portals and traffic time can be used to learn but it is never a intention.

When you discuss collaboration, vision, ways of working with them in your interview etc. what challenges have you faced? What kind of disconnects do you think exists?

1. They are the most overpaid people in India.
2. They have no work life balance and they don't even know what it means.
3. They think they are the best at everything, but they can't do anything right.
4. They are always complaining about their job and how much they hate it.
5. They are never satisfied with their salary or benefits package.
6. They are always looking for new jobs because they think they deserve better than what they currently have.

Software Engineers as seen by a Product Manager...

I am working as SDE 1 in a good Indian startup. It's getting toxic day by day. Late night workings like 3AM and working on weekends is normalised like anything. Since I am new to IT ( no sort of politics never) and have almost 2.5 Years of experience, I am facing issues in getting credits. Last appraisal cycle in January, I was nominated for promotion but wasn't given to me, reason: you have not worked with architect and he was making decisions. In that case, architect should have been distributed tasks to us. 

one SDE3 is leading one of the projects ( not a big one ) and manager/architect is not much interested and never join any standup or retro, I have contributed immensely to that. Now since it is completely driven by sde 3 , he takes updates from us and show his work infront of seniors and director + announces like his work and seldom we get thank you in threads. Like if you did one function or wrote complete flow, for both thank you. Because of all these reasons, my work is not getting recognised. There is no one in team to help in this. 

Whenever a manager or Architect show cases some features or release, it's pretty evident that his team has done it but when a sde 3 does it, it is not the same. It conveys the message all or 90% work is done by him. 

I would like to take some suggestions from my seniors and fellow mates here.

So, recently, I interviewed for an Ed-tech firm. The questions asked were standard & i answered them pretty well.

The instant feedback I received was good as well. But i got a rejection mail 2 days later.

The guy who took the interview was a 2024 grad, an APM with only 3 months of full-time experience & 7 months of internship experience at the same company.

Now, I am used to rejections without feedback but this one felt a bit different. Somehow, I felt weird about being judged by someone who has much less experience than me. I thought to myself "was this a fair assessment?", "would a senior interviewer analyze my skillsets differently?"

Just wondering, has anyone ever felt the same? If so, have you dealt with it any differently other than just moving on?

I was curious, that what will happen to the people who are right now working in growth, program managers, or in fact as business analysts, SDEs after 15 years.

 I am 25 Years old right now, and all I can see is people aged between 21-30 in startups. 30-35 year old people are less than 5% of the workforce. After 10 years, all my age group people will be 35, and all the roles I see at that age, are too scarce. 

Will it be too difficult to switch jobs then, or career, hikes will kinda stagnate there? 

Want to know from other experienced people that where does the crowd go?

What after 15 YOE?

This is mostly for people who have spent 10+ years in the industry. I’m sure we all can agree that the hiring and salary boom that we witnessed in 2021-22 is mostly over now. Now it’s more about surviving the job market rather than printing asymmetrical amount of money

But how has it turned out for people who’ve been in the game for too long. I know some people who switched jobs too quickly and are at a higher package but still not content. At the same time, I know a few seniors who’re still in my first company and are happier than ever with the work.

I understand that in Tier-1 cities, the expense itself is more and you’re sometimes forced to switch just to stay afloat. But what would you recommend new joiners based on your experience? Does chasing money in early years help later or only focusing on skills?
