How is korea as a place to work?
I've always wanted to work in Korea. Are there any first hand experiences of people who have come back from Korea? How is it as a place to work? Where did you live? What's the culture like?
The South offices are nice, but we haven't heard from the North offices in decades - wouldn't recommend.
Good culture, good people, you will have difficulty socialising with them(same as Japan), slight xenophobia in clubs etc., ball busting hard work and decent pay.
I wouldn’t choose it but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t

Is this a thing with entire East Asia at this point? China followa 996, Japan has hectic work culture and now this too?
If you can surmount the language barrier, excellent experience.
I do not have a long stay work experience, but have done multiple 2 week work visits over the years. Culturally easier to assimilate for Indians than Japan / China, food isn't a challenge, Seoul is super safe.
Don't expect a lot of individual entrepreneurial innovation / zeal though. The chaebols own everything and can feel a bit bureaucratic.

Do they tend to be xenophobic?
Not xenophobic. They are a little colour sensitive :)
Fairness is an obsession with Koreans - they spend truckloads of money to be and stay fair.
Your colour doesn't change the way they behave publicly with you, but it is something that plays on their subconscious and we should know.
