You did not get unlucky... you were careless. What you are facing now is the repercussions of being careless. It's hard to believe someone has guts to use work laptop for such things. The only thing you can do at this stage is - Request them to keep the service letter clean and not to mention the real reason for termination. Otherwise no company will hire you in future. They will not change their decision as they are following the protocols. Best advice would be - Move ON. Start searching for new job. And do not use office laptop for any other thing apart from office work.

I personally wouldn't recommend the other advices here. Not sure if they were meant sarcastically. You did make a mistake, there are compliances to be followed and work laptop isn't there to do anything personal. Now, own it, like a comment mentioned here, see to it that there's nothing mentioned in termination letter. Get into better financial habits, maintain emergency fund, have less to no debts/loans. Note, emergency fund should cover your debts for the period you want to cover with emergency fund. Having financial prudence and minimalist lifestyle can help you stay away from Gambling. Unless it's an addiction and you enjoy so much that you can't let go of addiction, getting into financial prudence should do the trick. If not, get serious help

Firstly, it's not spyware, it's EDR which is required for every company to have on their systems to protect them from cyber attacks and maintain compliance both with internal and external policies. It was a mistake on your end to use work laptop for anything except work, and you should take lessons from it. Never use your company laptop even for watching a movie, the SOC team knows everything that you do on your system. Secondly, get out of betting and gambling. People only see luck or winnings in the initial phase, after some months it shows its parasitic nature. If you don't stop betting now, you will be in a much more dire situation in future and at that time you won't be able to do anything to save yourself or your family from the doom. If this has become an addiction, there are government helplines as well as non-profit organisations that can help you. Make right decisions, and think long term.
