Hi everyone, I have joined service based company 3 months ago and I’m in the initial stages of my career. I am planning for my MS in US in 2024. The days are approaching, I need to get LOR from 1 manager atleast.

How do I ask them about writing an LOR for me? They will for sure ask for a reason and I’m scared about their reaction of me leaving the company a year later since they’ve invested their time and efforts in training me. I have no past internships done, otherwise I would get LOR from ex- manager. Any advice would be really appreciated!

I’m on my notice right now and plan on going for an MBA sometime after a couple of years. Should I request my current employer to provide me a LOR right now, before I’ve moved on? Or should I just inform them right now and take it when I’m actually applying to B Schools?

Hi all,

As the title suggests, I want to know if there are consequences associated with quitting a company in just 3 weeks.

I've joined an early stage startup as one of the first few hires in the product team. The pay and work is reasonably okay. WLB is also good. But one of the companies I was interviewing during my NP from called me back, conducted one more interview and now I have a better offer in hand. This new company is a fintech giant and objectively it makes no sense for me leave this offer. 

I'm stuck in a situation now where I'm getting super anxious to initiate this conversation with my current manager about leaving in just 3 weeks. Can someone help me with this? Please share your experiences if possible.

I am planning to join Microsoft India next month as a SWE 2 (L61/L62) and I am pretty excited about it. I have aspirations and dreams to moving to US (I know its not that amazing and India is great but I wanna go due to family).
I know if you are lucky and spend enough time in a company, such as Amazon, you may get that chance. I used to work at Amazon IN but I was laid off cause JWO.

Can someone working at Microsoft India, make this move in lets say 2-3 years or more if they perform well, keep their manager informed about these plans and lurk for opportunities.

I very well know that the answer may be a big NO but I thought to just ask for opinions.

Hi everyone. I have an introductory call scheduled with a recruiter. My current company has terrible leadership and toxic wlb where my inputs are not valued much since they feel juniors are completely dumb. 
I joined this company (after completing 6 months of internship) right after my graduation in June 2022.

I'm sure I'll be asked this question of leaving my current company after just over a year. What should I respond with?

‚Why do you want to leave your current company after just over a year?’

I have all the proofs, call recordings, rule book, etc which states "I can either serve 3 months notice, or buyout the 3 months with pay, without any reasons asked", but now the  HR is stating the policies have changed, and you will have to follow the new rules. We haven't been informed about the rule changes nor did we sign any new rule book. What should I do? I want to get a buyout without any trouble.

Just got a decent offer, considering a switch. 
Not sure how to approach manager (also co-founder) with this news. 

Context: 
1. Org has no clear set of rules/policies, but I heard notice period is usually 1 month. My joining date is 1.5 months from now. 

2. Team is in a chaotic state. 1-2 folks were fired, no replacements have been hired. 1 person is on a sabbatical. Worried manager won't take news positively. 

3. Want to leave on good terms, this is my first job, so not really aware of how to have these conversations.

I have received an official communication to initiate the process of L1B visa. I have heard rumours that companies initiate and help you in getting the visa but when it comes to actually sending you to US they delay the travel by 3 months citing budget constraints.

Anybody have heard or experienced this in their organisation? 

P.S. On the sidelines, I have secured and offer letter which is 2X my current CTC.

I wanted to hear from this community, what would you do in this case? Considering L1B rumours mighty be some strategy to retain employees.

L1B Visa: Trap or reality??

Hi Guys,

I need advice on something, In a service company, I was moved to a client project and it's a big application, it'll take time for me to understand but the managers are living in a fantasy world where they are expecting me to understand and start fixing bugs and delivery super early because they have very strict deadlines with the client. Client is also aggressive.

I'll do my very best but my 2 questions are

1. I'm not able to deliver even after doing my best, If they lay me off because of performance, can these managers do something with my offer letter, like not giving it or writing something wrong in the relieving letter which might cause issues in background verification, if I maintain good behaviour at least.

2. How do you guys handle such retards when they are pushing down on you, how do you reply to them when they are pinging you with nonsense.

I asked early release from company. Notice period is 90 days but I want to leave in a month and willing to buyout notice period. But my manager is not approving. I have reason. I am relocating due to medical emergency in family and to take care of wellbeing of them. What should i do.? I want to share my story and get everyone's suggestions on how to proceed. 

I have been working with this startup for more than two years. Recently, my manager and HR head called me for a meeting and said I wasn't living up to their expectations and they wanted me to resign. In the same discussion they said, the company would be paying 2 months salary as severance pay and my LWD would be in June since the notice period here is 2 months and this would help me in my job hunt.

So having faith in this company, I resigned. Right after that my manager and the HR head is not legally acknowledging the two months of my salary as severance pay. And the very same day, they sent me the experience letter which had the same day as my last working day, despite them mentioning my LWD would be in June. 

How do I proceed now? I have given my best to the company in the last two years. But things turned out this way, very dejected and disappointed with the startup.

So I was put into Focus (coaching plan, pre-PIP) at Amazon. After the focus period ended I was given two options
Leave with severance
Go into PIP 

I chose to leave. So I am currently serving notice period. My manager is trying to get some unfinished work done from me. I don't want to finish it. There are multiple reasons for it. Finishing this task will benefit him more than me.I am already stressed about looking for my next job

Here's the question:
My manager says that I can provide his reference to my next recruiter/hiring manager and he will provide good feedback about me. (He said this so that I feel indebted to him and finish whatever task that he assigns me)

Do hiring managers/recruiters reach out to your previous manager? Can they reach out to your previous team members instead?

 My teammates have seen me working on the frontlines and know everything about me from my work ethic to my abilities. They can vouch for me way better than my manaher ever could. My manager always underestimated me severely. He put me into focus all because of his blindedness (this came from my teammate not me)

I dont care about burning bridges with my manager because he was toxic af. Just wanted to know if recruiters will reach out to him or not? And can I instead provide a reference to my teammates
