[Thread] Have you ever taken advantage of or misused company perks? What happened, and did it come back to bite you, or was it all in good fun?

For the 1st year in organization,  my peers tried to hurt me by insulting in public/ group meetings. When I reported the incidents to my leader he assured he will do something but nothing was done. 
After waiting patiently for 2 months and seeing increasing attacks from peers via other modes I reported the incident to the HR.

Here’s my story in the field of software engineering: There’s this colleague of mine who is on a pure tech role but hardly codes. The person spends his entire time on LinkedIn sharing new age tech stuff and projects himself to the world as if he is the Messiah of architecture. The guy preaches the same gyan to members of my team. For the last one year, this guy, in the capacity of Software Architect has not pushed a single line of code into our application source code and this is on record. Yet, he is highly regarded as an expert in technology. The guy has killed the careers of some genuine software engineers with his unique approach to make it look like he is taking a lead to own stuff in tech space. The guy has had tremendous career growth, got promoted 3 times in the last 5 years.

In my view, the guy is a tech junkie whose knowledge carries no value. Yet he managed to butter the leadership team to reach to position that he is currently in.

Here is how the CEO, Muskan Rastogi makes people perform
- Promises office timing from 11am to 8pm but force employees till 11pm at night

- Holds the original documents of school / college certificates and uses that as a way to blackmail employees if they wish to leave

- Asks employees to pay from their pocket if they leave in month (usually by this time employees find the company is shitty toxic, but get mental torture that the company has certificates held)

- CEO Promises on time payment of salaries but has never come on time

- Deducts LOPs unreasonably if questioned

- Shouts and yells at employees to establish dominance at office

- Has zero empathy on employees.

We just received a message on our company  (Graphy by Unacademy) from our business head that, we should not come to him asking for 6-7 leave for Diwali. These are the employees who want to go back to there home town for the featival. Additionally he said that it is an optional holiday and we can ask for 2-3 days work from home max not more that that, and we should understand our business’s needs and remain focused on it. 
What should I do now I have to prioritise my family and going to my home town, like this I will have pressure from both ends, please pass on any advice.

In a shocking turn of events, a former employee at MoEngage, while serving their notice period, reportedly downloaded over 1,000 files, including confidential pitch decks, proposals from active deals, and sensitive product documentation, onto their personal device. This individual allegedly shared the stolen data with a competitor they were preparing to join.

As a result, this competitor has started appearing in all of MoEngage’s deals, armed with insider information, and MoEngage is facing unprecedented losses against them. The IT team at MoEngage flagged this alarming activity, and the former employee is now facing legal prosecution.

I had a boss who asked a colleague on their notice period to report to work when they were actually sick. 100+ fever on consecutive days. He took him to a client meeting, where he fainted and had to be taken to the hospital. 
The boss said - "Uski kismat hi kharab hai."

People in my organization recently went through performance appraisal and like every time, the manager does not reveal employees’ rating. This is most likely a scam as the employees are rated and the ratings are recorded in the system but not revealed. Is it how we have in other organizations? Add your comments.

We all have heard about the toxic culture of Edtech. Unacademy is now in the top spot when it comes to companies with toxic culture. Any company cannot be more cruel than this:

1. Abusive language by leaders - COO, CBOs, SVP, VP and other leaders treat employees as slaves. They themselves have made huge lossess and are burning investors money but when any employee voice out their opinion/asks for leaves, the leaders abuse employees badly even in front of other stakeholders.

2. Forceful long working hours -
Even if you complete your work in 8-9 hours, you are forced to sit for 11-12 hours just to show the founders.
People hardly work after certain hours but they just have to sit and waste their time. This is tiring and there is no work life balance. No time to spend with family. I hardly get chance to spen time with child. 

3. Late night reviews -
So the company has started this new way of conducting monthly reviews late in the night. People are asked to sit till 2-3 AM for reviews. And this review is nothing but a setup where COO abuses the employees.

4. Forced paycuts -
We have seen a forced paycut for the leaders (VP, SVP, Directors etc). 'No appraisal' was still somehow digestable but how can a company justify the degrowth in the earnings of their employees. Company has money to sponsor TVF web series (Sandeep Bhaiya), invite Standup comedians (Biswa and Prashasti), distribute pizzas to all the employees but when someone voices out for paycuts, they don't have money. 

5. No Flexibility In Working
The company witnessed its highest growth and revenue when 100% of the employees were working from home but now the founders think that people do not work from home so they have called everyone to work from office for 6 days a week. If someone asks for a work from home, the leaders denies or ask to apply leave to work from home.
Be it rains, election, etc - we are asked to work from office. Even during the day of election in Karnataka we were called in the office.

I have been working in HSBC GSC HYD for more than a year and as this journey comes to an end now, I would like to share my experience with you all. 
The first thing that comes in our mind while joining any new company is about their workplace environment and their HR policies. 

There have been quite a few incidents that happened during the last one year which I neglected thinking "Isn't this what corporate life feels like?" I neglected everything to the point where it became unbearable for me and made me go through some serious mental health issues and panic attacks. 

The most recent incident that I would like to share with you all is when I was ethnically humiliated by one of my colleague.

The incident happened on 22 April 2024 when I was subjected to ethnically insensitive remarks by my colleague AA. The exacts words which was used by him is 'EK CHAMAAT MAARENGE, BIHAR PAHUCH JAOGI' which exactly means - I will slap you so hard, you will go back to Bihar. 

I did follow the protocol and informed my manager AT about the whole incident but nothing came out of it, except for a team meeting where I was told that my colleague did not physically assault me, it was just a hatred comment which I can let go of. 

I reached out to the concerned HR team and filed a POSH Complaint for the same, after weeks of the incident, on 3 May, I received an email from the HR team to give feedback for the same without any updates on what action was taken. 

I did let go of everything thinking that anyways I will be leaving the office soon as I am currently in my notice period when another incident happened. 

I was on a smoke break when VKR, AMO from the UK CDD team approached me and made objectifying remarks on me. The comment he made was 'Tmhare jaisi ladki hum aaj tk ni dekhe hai, akele pura UK team ka naam kharab kr k rkhi hai.' which means - He has never seen a girl like me, I have ruined the name of their team. I did ask him the reason for saying such things to which he replied 'tmhare alawa kisi UK team ki ladki ko hm ni dkhe hai cigarette pite huye' which means - he has never seen any girl from the UK team smoking cigarettes. Later while going back inside the office, I saw him eating tobacco and spitting on the wall inside the office premises. 

My LWD is 13 June 2024 and I hope this post reaches to everyone who are currently working in HSBC and to the people who are planning on joining HSBC GSC HYD before I leave.

Good that she reported it. Such things are shrugged as usual banter, though people don't understand how deeply they can affect someone's mental health

A few days ago, one of the senior folks used his influence to get latest 6 months data from the competition (who is kicking their ass). Shows the data to the CEO and other C level folks. Gets a broader audience too. 
Funny part: code of ethics clearly stated that no corporate espionage. 
Should I report to the board or someone anonymously or should I just ignore ?
I am so pissed that I want to move on from this organisation.

Ethical conundrum

I want to share my experience as a fresher at Accenture, my first company from a college placement. The first six months were fine, but then I faced severe mental harassment from my supervisor and manager. She constantly criticized my work and gave negative feedback, causing me immense stress. I often skipped meals and worked weekends to improve, but nothing helped.

Despite reporting the issue and requesting a supervisor change or a different track, my requests were ignored. The harassment worsened, affecting my physical health, and I couldn't eat or sleep properly. My manager controlled trivial aspects like where to sit and whom to talk to, making the situation unbearable. I was even forced to switch from a developer role to a tester, despite being trained as a developer.

The final straw was being placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) without a clear reason, with the same harassing individuals assessing me. I only had 1.9 years of experience then. I reported the mental harassment to HR and resigned due to deteriorating health, panic attacks, and weight loss. Despite having no other job offer, I couldn't continue. Even during my notice period, I was forced to complete PIP assignments, which led to suicidal thoughts and further health issues.

Now, I am jobless, feeling helpless and frustrated. With less than 2 of experience, I struggle to find offers in a down IT market and don't know what to do next.
