Most people I work with are worth 1Cr+ after 25. I have figured their secret 😛
I have seen a lot of questions here about how to become rich or successful. I initially thought I could make a course and shill it on LinkedIn, but then I decided against it. Context is: I work in a field where most around me are making a lot of money, and typically everyone's a crorepati by 26/27. That's what I have seen. Their secrets: 1. They work 12+ hours a day consistently for 5 days a week, and then some more on Saturday (sometimes Sunday). Even at the peak of covid, when everybody was scared and would avoid working, these fuckers would. 2. They are ultra competitive. They will compete on anything, not just work. They are addicted to poker. They will debate anything during lunch time, no matter how frivolous it is. Pure TYPE A folks. 3. They never complain about working hard. It's just second nature for them. Stems from IIT/IIM days, but continues. They don't question it. (I do, because I am not them) 4. They obsess over money. They constantly try to figure out where they can make more money. All invest actively. 5. They are incredibly well read. Can speak at length on any topic. They truly love going deep into a topic and coming out with the crux of it (or so they may think). Now I know one thing. These are very obvious things. Everybody knows if you do this, you probably would become successful. But my takeaway is to do it. It's super difficult. But at my age, I have no option but to not try, now that I have seen how its done.
Doesn't seem worth it though. Maybe until you get into an expertise in your field, you should strive for point 1. Beyond that, I wouldn't recommend.

There's been no week where I have not questioned why the fuck do these people not want a life.
But then, somewhere, I also want to be successful in life, and feel like I should put my head down and at least give this a shot for 1-2 years more. At least I will have the satisfaction that I tried it once in my life
Define your success based on what makes you happy. Do you think IAS/IPS, historians, policy makers, etc don't consider themselves as successful? They just don't think earning money is success, they want to excel in the field simply because excelling involves solving better and better problems in the thing they choose

Point number 1 itself has many consequences from health to relationships. They are not very well socialized or integrated, often have mental issues undiagnosed and untreated, heavy drug/alcohol use as well in many cases.
This much is enough to opt out of that life. Moving fast while breaking yourself isn't worth it. Many of them will understand this in the next decade of their life, hopefully before it's not too late.
Agree with consequences on health and relationships
These guys are well socialized though, and quite normal in social interactions, quite good even. No heavy drug alcohol, simple people only that way

It's not about good social interactions as much as depth of the relationship. If you can't make more time for people, the relationship remains shallow. If they were ever in need, how many people would show up to help? That's the true test of integration in a community/circle.
I'm not saying all of them have problems with drugs alcohol etc. I'm just saying high performance comes at a cost, can be anything.

Stop the CAP. Assuming you graduate at 22, there are NO jobs(except for the remote ones) that can get you to 1Cr+ INR hard cash networth in 3 yrs. Considering 5 lacs yearly expense you would have to earn 40 lpa post tax. The only companies that can come close to creating that sort of wealth for it's employees are quant trading firms like Tower Research

The starting pay is 50L+ (this if for 2 YoE). It goes to 1.5-2Cr for post MBA folks who join after IIM.

This makes sense for 25-30, but mostly after 30s this changes due to mental, physical health issues, poor general social well-being, trauma from waves of layoff / performance review that tell how corporates work.
True. I've seen seniors pretty much mellowing down after having kids.
Not completely mellowing down, but their intensity does reduce
Get into tier 1 schools first, if you have missed that train then it's a tough path to slide in

If anyone is still wondering, OP is talking about private equity, hedge funds and HFT guys. One can easily bank a crore by mid-20s.

I see a lot of posts here saying things to the tune of “it is not worth it” and a few more not believing that one can seriously make this much money at 25, so I figured I’ll throw some light on this from a non-anon account to give some credibility.
I am writing this because
a) I had made 1cr+ at 26
b) I can relate to many of OPs points but not all
1. On whether it is possible - for me it was a combination of making freelance/opensource money in college, lucky break with a profitable startup in which I could sell my stake, getting to work an interesting problem at one of India’s fastest growing companies where the CEO threw me an astronomical bonus for solving it. I know others who got here too, if not by 25 but 26 or 27, and none of my friends are in hedge funds/VC, just some non linear paths, starting early to earn and some amount of luck.
2. On the work hard bit, it is 100% true. Mostly because these people (incl me) are all making money doing things they love. 12 hrs a day + weekends is not a “bad” thing if you actually love (and are slightly addicted to) the thing. There are folks I know (incl me) who at times crave for building a project or writing some code over playing FIFA or watching Netflix.
3. A few people have pointed out whether it is worth it or if people even “have a life” if they do so. I don’t know man. Between the age of 22 to 26 I travelled to 20+ countries, 15+ states of India, spending 50-60 days a year travelling, exploring so much food, history, culture that I love. Built a 3L+ gaming rig, assembling it all by hand, bought a huge Bosch toolkit to DIY setup a work station with wall-suspended monitors. Bought a car and did road trips to remotest corners with friends. Dated many people for one year, then also, dated one person for many years. I am not sure what more life I missed out on. Seems like it very much was worth it.
4. Can relate to some of the general things like being well read, being ambitious with money and investing it and looking it increase it, being competitive and all. That’s true. I mean I can look at my peer group from college or school or cousins or most other circles and in terms of material success will mostly be in 75th or 90th percentile in every group and still the thought of “gratitude because life turned out better than others” is a less common occurrence than “look that guy got into gig/funding/industry/company/stock at the right time, shucks, I could have done it too, missed it damn”
5. Some of the more specific examples are less relatable of the above points itself. Addicted to poker = nope, only played once in life. Yes some friends play regularly, I don’t see the point though. Can speak on any topic = eh, I’d rather say I love reading and ‘discussing’ literally every topic on earth, not sure I know enough to ‘speak’ about everything though. (Wouldn’t feel bad if people did say I am well read about lot of things, I do try to be)
Anyway if you can make a course and shill it on LinkedIn and make money (and not feel cringe / bad about it and not beat yourself up in front of a mirror for it) then just go ahead and do it. Nothing bad ever came out of life for being ambitious or making money

- What all pointers you will give me, I’m 26 yrs old earning decent above 30LPA (too less as compared to you :))
I would like to get your advice on the same on how to make money other than jobs, is there anything as a side hustle I can do. Sorry for the naive questions.
But there is definitely big difference in you and me ..you are way ahead in the curve .. any pointers how can I improvise ?

Iam not a high achiever, i dont have a life. Ill do anything wrt work asap. Because it seems to me that it matters
Talk to anyone who worked hard later in life with all the health issues and surely they regret it.
So. I know a lot of people aren't able to cope with health. But some of these guys are quite good at somehow still being able to do it.
Idk how. But they play tennis baddy etc. whenever possible and not totally unfit.

Hi, Thanks for sharing. Few questions (on junior VC folks):
Who's paying people 1.5-2Cr after MBA? No MBA placement report from top BSchools says this number. Looks eggagerated. Unless you are talking about Global B Schools.
There also, who gets paid this at 26/27? You need 3-4 years of workex to get to a top Global B School + 2 more years of B School itself.
What do junior people at VCs do working 12+ hours a day? Like what exactly constitutes their typical day?
Do these guys actively invest? Do they understand public markets - Because at least from the valuations that they give to private companies, doesn't look that way. I may be wrong here. They few folks I know here invest actively in Mutual funds via SIPs.
