A senior PM here, will play the devil’s advocate here.
Don’t want to demean or offend anybody but as long as companies keep hiring below average coders and EMs who have become scrum masters, you would need a PM in this country who unfortunately is playing the triple role of Delivery manager,Engineering manager and Project manager.
In a way PM is one person who is owning, solutioning and managing delivery which is something PM should not be doing but in India that is the reality!!
Agreed, the role is very complex, no fix expectations from the candidates.
Even the fresh out of college engineering grads are hired in this role and they are not provided the training.
well, actually PM was a really niche job role where the supply was very less.. it's only now people/eduTech company made a big hype for it and now we have over-supply!!!
Yes that is true. Suddenly post 2020 there was a big fomo for product roles. Every one wants to be a PM, right out of college. Have seen even Commerce Honours applying for tech PM roles right out of college.
But today the job scene for PM doesn’t seem right. Huuuugggee supply with even less demand
Have multiple friends who are struggling to land a call. Even seasoned folks finding it a lot difficult

Also literally everyone thinks they can become a PM. So the market only "looks" crowded. I take 10 pm interviews every week and I reject 8 of the 10 candidates. That's why I feel only 20% top PM's are the ones that will keep getting the creamy roles rest will keep posting such posts.
