People who lecure to upskill to prevent layoffs need to stop 🛑

Very crucial to upskill oneself in specific domains. I believe the frugality is there to stay. Just like most government reports, the actual layoffs are much higher than what you read in news.

I'm currently in the Junior year of my college and I've received an internship offer as a SDE from one of the respected companies(hasn't laid off anyone yet). Since 2024 is the year I graduate, I was wondering what the scenario might be according to the people senior to me. Will we be a victim to the situation as well! The terror is for real :/

I have 17 years experience as head of data science in a startup , I am thinking how to save jobs in this current scenario , I am hearing my friends who are in Swiggy , Zomato in senior vp positions loosing job . How to up skill to become layoff proof or easy to get jobs , data engineering with complete architecture and design data platform knowledge of aws , gcp,azure, data bricks, snowflake , Know end to end all major domain bfs , insurance, retail ,e-commerce , manufacturing to generate insights Know llm architecture , system design , end to end software development , MLOps , web development, data base design People management , mentoring, leadership, industry connect , doing part time phd what we should do to be evergreen to get job when layoff happen or save ourselves from layoffs

As we know tech companies and startups are laying off people left and right irrespective of making profits 🤑💰. It's understandable if the companies are out of funds but doing this when you are enjoying profits is not acceptable. And u guys are also not any less. Stop being a victim and fool. Stop complaining about layoffs on social media platforms as everyone will forget them with time. It's time to do cutoffs on your behalf. Cut off subscriptions to big tech companies and startups. Join this wave of cutoffs to see the news of subscription revenue down by 10% or 20% rather than companies cutting off workforce by 10% or 20% The change should start with you. Stop subscribing to Amazon Prime, YouTube Premium, Spotify and others. Encourage your peers to do the same and see the change yourself by the end of this quarter

I am sure this post will get a lot of backlash but still I want to express my thoughts. I usually don’t post anything but this just cross my mind. It’s been months now and we are hearing layoffs news from big tech giants Twitter, Google, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft. LinkedIn is flooded with posts from the people who got laid off. These posts garnering thousands of comments from people ready to help. My question to the tech community, What are we doing for our people who are not from so called big tech companies.? How are we helping them? I am sure there are people who got laid off from other companies need greater support in getting a job. All the companies right now are focussing on getting people from the former group. I don’t have any problem with that but it’s the fact that they were already on the top 5-10% of the tech pyramid. They were getting paid better than anyone in the market for years. They got the best facilites and sure have a good financial backup and savings. Even the severance packages they get from their companies is way higher than the market standards. Moreover, they are talented minds and already have an edge over their competitors. My request to tech community is to stop being biased and help people from the latter group to get some living(Job). They are in more need of our help and support. PS: This is just my personal opinion and there is no negative context to it.

Was just reading The Ken’s article they posted today around what went behind Bain’s recent layoffs - made me think a lot. More so because I rejected my offer from Bain in college to go join a startup. Bain is a titan in the consulting world, what made it stumble so hard in India? By now, all of us know Bain let go 15-20% of its workforce, a shocking move that reveals deep problems. What went wrong? 1/ Putting all eggs in one basket: Bain's excessive dependence on Tiger Global (60-70% of PE consulting revenue) proved catastrophic when Tiger faltered. When Tiger faltered, Bain was left scrambling. 2/ Overconfidence led to overhiring: The 2022 hiring spree, nearly doubling B-school intake, reveals a dangerous disconnect between market realities and internal optimism. Now, with less work, those hires became a burden. 3/ Reputation at Risk: Layoffs may solve immediate financial woes, but the long-term damage to Bain's employer brand could prove costly in an industry that thrives on top talent. 4/ Others learn from Bain's mistakes: While Bain stumbled, rival BCG played it safer and is now in a stronger position. 5/ Growth isn't everything: Bain's fall shows that in consulting, steady relationships and smart hiring matter more than just getting bigger.
