why don't companies do pay cuts instead of lay offs?

I have lost all hopes from appraisals. I think if you wanna gain hike in your package, just make a switch. What are your thoughts?

Leadership is clueless and one of the most toxic workplaces where people are bullied and no boundaries are considered 
.Just a week before the appraisal cycle, the let go of 100+ folks both billed onsite and offsite without even informing anyone in the team which impacted the work and morale of existing people. When asked about this to the management, all they cared about was the reviews on the ambition box and Glassdoor being low. They asked employees to give good reviews and when it was not working they used the marketing team to give good reviews, you can check the reviews yourself to verify this. The next big thing is , keeping org wide evaluations from manager level also and calling it some development program and mandating the employees to take it along with delivery work. So we can expect more rounds to happen going forward. What is more sad is the blackmailing and forcing employees to take down reviews and  employees who are planning to goo

Hi All, 
I joined Deloitte in Nov,2023. During my joining i negotiated with the HR regarding the increment of my base pay as it was too less. HR gave me two options, 1. Either take a joining bonus of 50k with the same package, 2. Or be eligible for the next appraisal cycle i.e. april 2024. 

I wondered if my efforts in the project will be recognised or not by the end of april. So i choose to take the joining bonus with the same package. 

The HR has left the firm and i am not sure whom to ask and approach regarding the appraisal query. Will i still be ineligible for an appraisal of even 5-10% this year?

I am a fresher and had a full time offer from Byju's and I had joining on 16th June which got deferred to 2nd August. Today I got another mail and it is further deferred to January 2024.
I don't have any other offer right now and I tried texting HRs on LinkedIn but no response. I used to be an active CP coder in college days. Any referral help/advice is appreciated.

It seems that senior management at Paytm was not satisfied with the first round of layoffs that they had done in Aug and there is a second round of layoffs which is underway for OND quarter.

Each CBO and product head has been given a target nos of people they have to reduce every month. Let's see what spin is given here - half yearly appraisal process is my guess

1. some people are pressured into resigning under the guise of poor performance, despite years of dedication.
2. sudden demand for employees to work from the office on specific days, hinting at wanting people to quit on their own.
3. layoff happening as reported by media (and internal group on grapevine), still unclear on how deep the cut will be can be from 20% or above; numbers are speculative, lets wait and watch, many have started getting the calls from HR; shabbily handled.
4. let's not talk about increments 🤡

Here is what is happening at Paytm

Almost 50% of the org got no increments
People with "exceeds" rating got single digit increments
Only promotion cases have got early to mid double digit increments
Promotions have been significantly fewer this time, max people have been told to hold off their expectations of promotions for another year

The reasons cited were economic slowdown, other companies like Microsoft, Flipkart, swiggy, Amazon doing the same and cost cutting. I think things are getting toxic and the majority of employees have been left disappointed.
