Which events, do you remember hurt your self esteem?
Being praised as a smart kid all my life, flunking in JEE advanced wrecked my self esteem, and it took me a long time to get over it.

In 9th standard, we were a group of four friends who had been together for three years, usually always at the same place. The teacher asked us to write down the names of our closest friends. Everyone wrote each other's names except me. I expected at least one of them to write my name. It hurt.
And another time, we were joking around, and out of nowhere, one of the guys said, "Don't smile, it looks bad." Now, every time I open the camera, I hear his voice.
If you get hurt and sob, nothing good will come out of it. Learn from your shortcomings. Winners are losers that decided to do it one more time. Try to learn why it happened, ask the guys at that party, learn what went wrong, and try to improve. If it's just looks that can be worked upon too. If genuine looks is a problem, work on your personality. Don't resort to hate, you can do better and be better. We've spent out lives being good at x, and some y is always left behind. Don't worry, become aware of the y and start working on it now. I don't know what it this shortcoming was, but I'm sure it can be worked upon.
