Should I take up a job offer which offers me a peace of mind but not much of a hike or stay within the current organisation get the appraisal which is somewhat similar to the new offer. 

Early in my career the main reason I’m even considering the job offer is that the current organisation the work culture has gone to $#! . It’s basically working on favouritism, unrealistic targets and no work life balance at all.

How do people climb up/become more important in startups as employees?

If they have the right culture then showing excellency in your role, helping out others in the team, having opinions on decisions taken (not just for the sake of it) should help you get closer to the decision makers. 
  
 Remember that at an early stage startup, everything revolves around the product, and you will be rewarded for aligning with that. 
  
 Speaking from experience, you will be involved in "the action" in a team of 30 people either way

Hello everyone, I wanted to step in and shed light on the volunteering culture at Productfolks. 
TLDR: It's the most toxic one. Don't join!!!

To begin with, they periodically post fellowship ads where completing an assignment is required for entry. Then, they mention that volunteering for one month is necessary before conversion. That makes sense. However, what they fail to mention is that you need to dedicate at least 8-9 hours daily(!!!) to be considered for conversion to a fellow. Currently, there are fewer than 10 fellows, while the number of volunteers is at least 4 times that because they want to continue EXPLOITING ppl. As a result, NO ONE gets converted. 

They claim to be a non-profit, but trust me, there's a lot of money flowing into the community, or perhaps just into the founders' pockets - especially looking at Suhas. 

When you volunteer, they treat you poorly, expect unrealistic time commitments, overload you with work, and hold you excessively accountable for things they need scapegoats for.

It's a culture where you regret ever getting involved because the work mainly involves operations that consume time, and the opportunities for learning are very limited. Not to mention the expectations that force you to sacrifice your days for menial tasks.

It might be okay for the tag, but I strongly suggest against volunteering. The community seems pleasant from the consumer end, and that's as much involvement as I would recommend

Hey- I’m a CS fresher from an NIT and ended up joining a company whose culture doesn’t sit with me. 

I’ve just joined the company and have no clue when to move- need experience and there’s a recession. 

Also, I’ll be doing an MBA (looking at ISB) in three years so is it fine if I switch or should I stay (not preferred but open)?

Here is how my career has gone so far

2018 -> Graduated from tier 1 college. 
2018 -> first job -> scale up -> 0 Esops
2019 -> switched to an early-stage startup -> worked my ass off -> Had Esops. 
2021 -> Wanted to ride the high salary wave during COVID -> Joined another startup -> Had Esops
2022 -> 5 months after the previous company, got 2 offers - 1 from Germany and 1 from WFH in India -> chose the India offer because of money. Had Esops.
2023 -> got laid off. Did not buy Esops since the company is sinking.
2023 -> got into freelancing for an AI startup, working my ass off without Esops due to job fear. 
2024 -> Here I am regretting my career choices

The only reason I joined startups was to get rich. Meanwhile, I got amazing hikes whenever I switched companies. In the end, I am now left with nothing but a bloated salary and a bloated lifestyle that I am used to.

The reason behind my rant: During this whole period, had I made efforts and joined FAANG companies, which are publicly trading, and got stocks, they would have amounted to much much higher net worth than any of the bets that I took. Do not make this mistake, folks!

Now a days work is never ever getting completed, we are working even after the office hours because every project is a p0 project, also managers are autocrative then a tech lead who dont have l0 knowledge but will comment on your timelines and i really doubt that with this culture in it industry i would really want to continue for long run. 
Are there some better career pivots that should be consider in mid 20s to avoid life long suffering ?

Hustle culture and toxicity

When I was in melbourne, I met a waiter in an Indian restaurant. He did his bachelor's in biotech and worked at this resto part time. Post his studies he got some job opportunity but stuck to this resto job. I asked him why? He said I get a free house and 2 meals. In 5 years I can collect enough money to go to hometown and buy 2-3 shops and m done for life. That time I was like how can a person be such? With no ambition?  
 Now I empathize after having high BP, neck pain, and many stress induced illnesses. Work on something, be really good at it and give it time. Its ok to be rich at 45, no need to have millions today. I used to think I missed the bus if I didn't make millions by 30. Now a bit wiser.

1. Work hard in your job. Don't complain and waste time. We know everyone is replaceable, but work so damn hard that if at all you decide to resign and switch sometime, it should come as a shell shocker to them.  
 Build a program/product/team from scratch, own it end to end so much that they'll never find anyone close to you who can work with the same efficiency. 
 You'll obviously take your learnings and apply them later on in your next job, but 
 You'll also earn the respect of all your colleagues which might be needed in your future corporate journey. 
 2. Don't chase money early on in your career unless you actually**need** it. Focus on building relationships, knowledge, learning to code (it helps) and earning respect of your colleagues wherever you go. 
 3. Don't get into smoking due to peer pressure. AVOID IT.

I have been offered 18 + 2 LPA at a conglomerate for product analyst role.

Pros:

1. Product Analyst Role again (I wanted to get into senior level roles)

Do you think I should wait it out and play the long game? or take the offer and chill.

They were layoffs at my current firm and they are acting very stringent about timings, travelling in Bangalore traffic is a big dealbreaker in itself, but there’s an appraisal cycle coming (with no hopes of a solid appraisal but I might get promoted and I also like the work and team at current firm)

Dear new graduates, stop working for companies who pay shit while they earn in billions. You are way more worthy then this, start setting a bar for yourself like they do. If you don't stop joining these companies they will continue to treat the same to the next generation. Stop working for pennies. You can earn more than you think search for a companies who pay more. Don't sign any kind of bonds. Work hard, earn more. Stop this habit of joining these companies like our elders did.

"It's that time of the year again—counting accomplishments. I came across a Twitter trend about such posts, and it's heartening to read about people achieving so much, including celebrating those seemingly small victories. As the year ends, I acknowledge those who may not have such so-called accomplishments; I hear you. This year felt monotonous for me, with neither highs nor lows, but looking back, I'm content. The year is over, and I'm optimistic about doing better and executing my plans in the coming year.

Life is good, even when it feels stagnant. Don't be disheartened; it gets better. I've had some of my worst years, but they were followed by great ones. This especially goes out to young individuals entering the workforce—your favorite company or desired CTC might be just around the corner. Keep at it.

Which companies i should prefer for a good work life balance? I'm fresher and will be getting placement soon!!!

I have done MBA from 7 years of work ex and switched into product management later. I have been struggling for the last 3 years with switching jobs every year post MBA.
 I am not able to find any anchor or goal. Further, wfh doesn't help either 😭😭. I was planning to connect with people who empathize with my situation, any guidance or help.

Is there someone with 10 years of experience who thinks, he is miserable in his current job and dont know what he wants to do in his life?

I want to share my experience as a fresher at Accenture, my first company from a college placement. The first six months were fine, but then I faced severe mental harassment from my supervisor and manager. She constantly criticized my work and gave negative feedback, causing me immense stress. I often skipped meals and worked weekends to improve, but nothing helped.

Despite reporting the issue and requesting a supervisor change or a different track, my requests were ignored. The harassment worsened, affecting my physical health, and I couldn't eat or sleep properly. My manager controlled trivial aspects like where to sit and whom to talk to, making the situation unbearable. I was even forced to switch from a developer role to a tester, despite being trained as a developer.

The final straw was being placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) without a clear reason, with the same harassing individuals assessing me. I only had 1.9 years of experience then. I reported the mental harassment to HR and resigned due to deteriorating health, panic attacks, and weight loss. Despite having no other job offer, I couldn't continue. Even during my notice period, I was forced to complete PIP assignments, which led to suicidal thoughts and further health issues.

Now, I am jobless, feeling helpless and frustrated. With less than 2 of experience, I struggle to find offers in a down IT market and don't know what to do next.
