Digital detox : Do you do it? If yes how you do it?

Overall spending close to 16 hours daily on mobile/laptop/TV

I have been trying to cut back my screen time.

Thinking of not using phone/laptop for an entire day except for making and receiving calls.

If you also been working towards detoxing yourself digitally, do share what you have been doing and is that working for you?

Definition of digital detox - A digital detox refers to a period of time when a person refrains from using tech devices such as smartphones, televisions, computers, tablets, and social media sites.

I attended the Digital Detox workshop by Habit Strong and got control over my Instagram scrolling. I can live without it and it's been a year since I've used it. It made me realise these things barely add value and we can get rid of them anytime we want just need discipline.
Try it I would recommend.

Correction to the above point, I use Instagram but once a day and sometimes once in a week. Usually through the browser so I get bored in 4-5mins.

I am limiting my screen time as I have a kid and I don't want him to get influenced and use mobile phones. Here's what I'm doing, and it seems to be working really well.

  1. Archived all the casual chats, only the important once like my husband, parents and couple of friends are unarchived , so that I get the notifications when they drop a message on WhatsApp.
  2. Uninstalled all the shopping apps.
  3. I do have Instagram, but I have set a break reminder for 10 mins and daily limit as 1 hour. 4.Uninstalled the apps that I do not use frequently.
  4. Logged out from apps that I frequently use. If it's very very needed only then I will spend energy to login. For example, swiggy or Zomato.
  5. No mobiles are allowed in my son's bedroom, since I spend most of the time with my son. Mobile is always in the living room and I usually miss a couple of updates or calls, and that's fine.
  6. I have fixed a time to check my phone and use social media, usually after 7, when my husband takes care of my son.

All these efforts were worth it. I feel I am more calm, mindful and happy. All the best to you.

Glad that you were able to do this. This seems super details and well thought through. I too am going to plan something similar.

Not sure about laptop, but in mobile, you better put up a screen timer for all apps to 5 mins (except for those that take more than 5 mins)

If you follow (without breaking) 10 din me farak dikhega

Yes, that’s a good way to do it. I remember when I had one plus it has a zen mode in which you can’t access your phone except for receiving calls.

And did you use it?

Been doing it for a while now Minimal use of social media Silencing notifications of apps which are useless Using digital wellbeing schedule to turn off most apps. This only allows you to use apps for like 5 mins and then it goes back to focus mode if you want to really use some apps.

I’ve also turned off notifications but still my mind wanders off

I do this every year, in the OND quarter. Deactivate and uninstall instagram and other unnecessary apps and in turn upskill. TV- I barely watch 1 hr. It's mostly between phone and laptop. During the uninstall, phone usage was down to 3 hours from 5-6 hours. Laptop, as work requires.

Honestly nobody would even notice if you weren't online. Plus back in 2020 I watched the Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma and switched off all notifications on my phone ever since. I prefer calling than texting nowadays.

Surprisingly it works

Have seen the social delimma. It’s just whenever I have time, first thing I pick is my mobile and end up doing endless scrolling

How do you do digital detox?

It's been long since I am unable to stop thinking.

  1. Non stop content consumption
  2. Brain is always occupied with something random
  3. Kind of addicted to phone, screen, earphone.

What about you, do you also feel the same way and how d...

People who reduced IG/Smartphone usage, how did you do it?

It’s clear to me that this isn’t good for me. My interaction with the outside world and being in the present is inversely proportional to how much I use IG/smartphone.

IG is obv the strongest drug, but in general want to be more consc...
