Too many meetings, and our boss is one yapper

I thought I was the only one frustrated with meetings until my colleagues also mentioned they were not able to get work done because most of the day was spent on meetings Plus our boss (CEO) loves talking, anyway the meetings are agenda-less. He stretches 30 min calls to 2 hours and then has the audacity to question the productivity. Cannot tell me this, he gets very touchy when feedback is negative for him. And then writes sarcastic messages. Also, who wants to take up fights with person who pays your salary What to do in this case? I'm tired of working 12 hours each day

Product Managers on

by BusyChurn67

Capgemini

I have started to hate my new job. 5 months in, need guidance

So, for some context, I recently joined my new company about 4 months ago. I was previously working at a well known design studio and wanted to try out product companies. My manager is very bossy and literally micromanages everything. Things they do: 1. Has 2 1:1s per week. 2 fkn 1:1s every week. One on Tuesday and one on Friday just to check up on how I'm doing and there is literally nothing to update during that time. I mean I'm not going to make any significant changes within 2 days. My time gets wasted and I've suggested that I don't think we need two calls like this but they dismissed that point. 2. Does not know when to diverge or converge. If we are approaching a deadline, they are still in an exploration mode and constantly ask me to explore more. Being super unrealistic. And then randomly call me out by saying, we need to wrap this up quickly after asking me to explore more. Like tf? 3. Most importantly, super confusing in the sense that they contradict their own opinion in the same call and all the calls end up with no conclusion. Do this using X method, then next day they say why are you using X method, you can try Y method too bla bla. This happens every time and I'm left speechless every time. I get on calls with them to get clarification on my issues but end up getting more confused. 4. Gives feedback and expects it to get implemented. If I say no or suggest a better alternative, they become defensive and pin it on me saying, I need to explore more etc. I do explore a lot but there should be a full stop to when I should stop exploring. Also, literally anything I do has to go through them, and they have to give unnecessary advice even when the work I am doing is coming to a closure. Every Sunday I dread that the next day is Monday. Feeling very down off late, what should I do?

Office Gossip on

Early Stage Startup

Rant post

Joined this organization as an SDE. Initially, had a great experience for the first few months, got to learn a lot. However, eventually, the management (co-founder) started showing his true colors where they would favor a few people who would say yes to everything the co-founder had to say, while others who asked for justification would suffer. One such issue is the lack of concrete documentation for policies, and surprise, surprise, the policies change based on the mood of the founders. HR, oh, where can I begin? I honestly haven't seen them work, other than salary processing, where they have outsourced their work like LinkedIn management and basic tasks such as wishing employees on their birthdays. This is perfectly fine with the co-founder, as he considers this innovative. Unnecessarily, we are forced to follow processes that hamper productivity, and we have to attend meetings for half the day. Still, they expect us to work for more than 10 hours when the salary is peanuts—hell, even peanuts are better; at least we can have them with alcohol. My learning is saturated, and there’s no zeal to learn as the manager and others demotivate you. The most frustrating part is the quarterly rewards, which make no sense, as the rewards are given to people who can appease their managers (confirmed). And now that we have increments incoming, they have all of a sudden started highlighting mistakes, finding mistakes even if they don’t exist. Like one such example was the co-founder asking us to write a script when the script was already shown, and asking for an update on a JIRA ticket when it was already given in the comments. They lost my respect when they started canceling people’s PTOs and disturbing people on their much-needed PTOs where they spend time with their families and unwind. The co-founder asks the PO to call and disturb the developer on their much-needed vacations after working for long hours and weekends as he wants to satisfy his ego.
