Interview or Harassment @ Meesho

The amount of pride in this post (https://shorturl.at/nopPW) almost baffles me, how is it okay to ask someone to spend their time on a 'pre-interview' assignment? What if the candidate doesn't fit the budget, or the notice period is a bit too much etc. Imagine going through so much only to be laid off because "sorry we hired like crazy and need to do cost-cutting now"

You could say this for all companies, who reject even after knowing the budget fit and other details.

Indian ecosystem needs a revamp tbh

Absolutely, more so when they realise/know that the current job market is shit and/or the candidate may have been laid off/under financial distress. In the end, nobody thrives because the employee does sub-par work owing to being shortchanged or just leaves for a better pay and the employer struggles either way

Take home assignments are common in sde

After you're shortlisted. Like aren't they using this as a filter? Imagine you had a THA to be even shortlisted for a phone screen, outrageous right?

From what I've seen, usually assignments are given after resume gets shortlisted, before we have live communication with anyone from the company

I don't do any take home assignment now. How can anyone give 5-8hr to couple of companies when only 20-30% will give offer. I declined ofbusiness assignment round and many. I just gave 1 assignment of navi and they didn't even evaluated that. So even if I do their assignment there is no commitment from Organization side and they can reject giving any reason. Pay me as per my hourly wage if you want assignment. I only know of assignment for internship only as a practice.

Absolutely agree, however given the current supply, only a privileged few can do this.

Although assignments are okay but they should be something one can finish in few hours, not something very comprehensive taking days to finish or expecting the polish of a finished work. IMO this is working now as jobs are few and many candidates want to go the extra mile. May not work in long term. Ideally, a short assignment to filter and then discuss or ask probing questions on a call

Companies with assignments - Cars24, Meesho are a big red flag.

How does one have so much time to spend on predicting and analysing the impact of a change to a hiring process for a specific role?
