Is it a good idea to resign without an offer?

I just need a little break. Want to introspect on what I want in life. Have not travelled a lot, want to do that.

I have a good enough run way to sustain for 4-5 months.

Do you think it's a good idea? Has anyone taken a break for a quarter or more?

If you need time and space, it's a good idea to give yourself that. Jobs will come and go. They aren't permanent but your well being and energies are yours to own. Invest in yourself. Take the time to be in sync with your inner self.
The job market is very aggressive and will continue to be so. The grind and what if fears will never stop. Taking a step back in whatever form works for you won't hurt you in the long run. Whatever set back you may face temporarily. When you are clear about what you want to do in life, things will start falling in place for you. And you'll be able to achieve your goals twice as fast. Take care and all the best!

Bad decision. I did the same after 5 yrs of working. I had a runway of 1 yr. I wanted to take a break for 1 qtr. 1 Qtr break turned into 1 year. After six months, every company low balled me because i didn't have a job. I had t invent a startup to show fake experience and move back to a similar position/Pay.

Happened to me as well. Cost me dearly in terms of career growth.

In the same boat currently. Everyone is asking for a lower pay than current CTC. How did you match the experience with startup name. Can you please elaborate @Qwerty2398 . Did you create a website for that?. Or just the company name is enough with fake experience to fill the gap?.

I am currently having a gap of 4 months

Hey @FarProduce96 , I am on the same boat. Let's connect on DMs. If you are confident enough you will get another one then it's fine

How confident are you in your skills? Do you have the confidence that you will be able to get a job in a short amount of time? Current market condition is not how it was. Good companies interviews have their own process and can take weeks to get offer letter.

Keeping all this in mind if you think you have the cash runway and cofidence you can find a new job quicky then i would say go for it.

I'm confident in my skills, I don't think I'll have much trouble landing a job.

But I hope recruiters don't misunderstand the career break with something else.

Hey it’s good to take a break and figure out. Just make sure you have a run way away of 12 months. Just to be safe :)

I'll have to touch my investments to get to the runway of 12 months. But I can manage for 6 months with my liquid assets. I'm not married that's why I don't have much of a dependency yet.

follow your passion, follow you heart, and YOLO life style will turn out to be very expensive. All this works only for the rich and people who have their own company and in movies Or if you are woman. You can always get married and then return under one of the many "come back to work" schemes.

Well, please have a plan of how you are going to make a comeback. It depends on your role as well. I do think you should have a run way of atleast a year.
When you are working and not interviewing you kind of lose track of how things are in the market .

Only if you have 6 months of expenses fund. Until you find your next job

I've taken a few breaks in my 11 year work experience career thus far. It's usually fine, go introspect and have fun. Come back fresh and ready to work hard - be it another company or starting up yourself. One negative impact it has is that you have lesser bargaining power when you're finding a new job, so you won't get a 30% hike. You may have to settle for 10-15% if at all. If you're fine with this - go ahead.
