SDE Intern vs SDET Intern

Have an offer from a growth stage startup for SDE Intern.

Subsequently, also an offer from Fintech PBC.

Tech stack at Startup: Java, Spring, MongoDB

Tech stack at Fintech PBC: Testing framework and tools

Startup stipend: 25K

Fintech PBC stipend: 60K

My inclination is more towards the SDE role purely because of the wide exposure while the money at Fintech is too good for now but there is not much room from growth and also with Al taking over.

Help me make a decision!

Go for SDE, from my view you get to ship the products and features that people use. That's a different type of feeling.

You can go with SDET and then move to SDE if you are still inclined towards it.

I would take the SDE role, software engineering will give you more flexibility later in your career. Don’t try to optimize for 30k rn.

You can also always switch from being a test engineer to software engineer but life happens, and inertia is a real thing.
