Tea Time: Loop Subscriptions

My friend recently joined this company company based out of Gurgaon — Loop is a shopify app which helps ecom businesses manage subscriptions.

Little did she know she subscribed to an incompetent toxic work environment.

  • This one salesperson openly vapes in office. ON HIS DESK. DURING WORK CALLS.
  • Until a few months ago, there were only 3 female employees in the company. Not a company but a Boys club at best.
  • Founder has serious unrealistic standards and expects his team to meet them. He doesn’t know half of the things himself but still gives useless ineffective feedback
  • Founder has told the HR person to book his cabs and treat her like a secretary. And later commented “Agli baar saaf cab bhejna”
  • The company is fully bootstrapped and growing fast but founder pays a meagre 25K salary to freshers.
  • Founder wants a detailed log of how his employees’ time was spent in the 50-hour work week.
  • They have a daily, weekly, and monthly reflections meeting where everyone is scrutinized and micromanaged.
  • Managers are incompetent and toxic and make personal attacks on one’s character.
  • For early employees who have stuck with the company through thick and thin, the appraisal is fully variable on performance. But there are no metrics for performance, only the founder’s mood.
  • The CTO has a god complex. Bro thinks he is Gandhi or some shit. They are just selling software, not fighting for world peace.
  • During a quarterly review, another friend mentioned how hard she had worked to handle all the data migrations for the company singlehandedly. The CTO mentions “Hard work toh sab karte hain. Hum non-hardworking logo ko hire he nahi karte”
  • The CTO has also been known to hit on young female employees in office parties. He has a wife and a kid but not everyone knows about it.
  • The CTO openly states that the marketing team is a loss making department
  • The Founder operates from the US for the half of the year and expects people working in India to reply at midnight
  • The Head of Marketing has been changed 4 times in the last 12 months because the founder cannot make up his own mind
  • The Company breeds on unethical Sales culture (faking testimonials)

She’s also seen some past numbers and suspects stats were faked in front of investors - not unusual though. She was also telling me how an ex-employee who helped the founder in the early days to setup everything and was very integral to the company was outed. He also wrote on Linkedin about this but deleted very soon.
