My resume isn't exactly the most honest document out there - I'd say about 60-70% of it is made up of lies or exaggerations. I added a couple of years of experience to get a better salary when I started out, and it worked! Now I'm getting paid like I've got 4.5 years of experience when I'm actually only a 2-year.

I'm doing fine in my current job and my skills are up to par, but I can't help but wonder if I'm setting myself up for trouble down the line. I'm thinking about looking for a job in Europe or the US eventually. I doubt they'll do a background check since I'm from a certain country, but I'm still concerned.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I’m a VP of PM (14yoe). I keep getting CVs of fresh grads (<3 yoe) claiming they’ve incread engagement by 50% in thier internship or that made made the product grow 10x. 

Asking them in depth on how they achieved it gets me very generic answers. Which tells me either they are inflating thier numbers or just working on products that have very high PMF to begin with. 

Making big impact always takes time - understanding and solving a problem rarely happens within a day.

They want to feel like they are changing the world with tech within a month of joining the org and peddle this BS to themselves and others.

In 2017, after graduating, I joined a big IT corporate as an Associate Consultant (Engineer). My start date was delayed by six months, and four months in, I was benched with half my already very low pay.

Money was tight with rent and other expenses. My family expected me to start investing in jewellery and buying land.

I was new to Bangalore and wanted more money to visit bars and expensive restaurants every weekend. Wanted to buy a bike with good gear. Along the dream to have a girl riding behind me. Sab Aukat ke bahar.

As one does, I started looking out into startups. The problem - 0 relevant work ex.

So here it goes,
I had interned at a startup in college and knew what their documents looked like. Filled the 6 empty months in my CV with a job as a “SDE-I Android” working with the founder directly.
I spiced up my CV with claims of 2x load time, reducing costs, international team collaboration, and an award.
Some college awards to boot too!

I made a detailed fake job story, read interview books, solved questions and watched salary negotiation videos. Eventually, I got into a Series A startup with only having to make 1 fake certificate.
They never checked with my previous employers, and now I earn eight times what I would have.

The guilt and imposter syndrome haunted me until I started performing well. I still feel guilty, like last Holi when my family praised my achievements.

Just excused myself and went for a smoke and a ride out. The bike is here and it is a custom painted beauty.

Guilty thoughts still go by occasionally but I am becoming more and more comfortably numb to it every passing year.

I have since stopped outright lying and just partake in the standard resume inflation.

Had to let this out.

I will go first, i have deleted my first company from my resume because even though i was very good at coding. They put me in a support project in graveyard shift.  I faked illness to get out of shift, and later on was removed and put in angular project. 

I moved on 6 months later to a good company as backend engineer but i really regret joining my 1st company.

When asked , I just say the work was not relevant to what i wanted.

Please share your experience too.

Hey folks. I was unemployed from Jan 2020 till Apr 2021 when my MBA began.

Got laid off from IT co in Jan as most all our clients were abroad where pandemic had started and their businesses were totally stopped. 

Prepared for CAT (98 percentile) meanwhile along with some online courses and basic social work. 

Should I mention the gap year in my resume or skip it completely?

I've 3YOE in Manual testing and want to switch to another company with Automation Tester role.
I've learnt Selenium with TestNG framework using Java and have also created a few personal projects. Apart from this, I've learnt basic postman for API testing too, and planning to learn a few other things like DSA, Cucumber, SQL.

So my question is:

Should I lie in the resume by showing that I've 3YOE in automation? As it's difficult to be shortlisted for interview by mentioning only Manual testing experience in Resume because every company is expecting hands on experience.

Or should I mention only Manual testing experience (the truth) only, with no hands on experience in things that I've learnt?  Getting shortlisted is an very difficult in this way, though.

Any thoughts?
