Small Wins (2x’d my MF Portfolio)

Hi folks I'm a 21 year old, investing 1000 each into 35 mutual funds Taking my SIP to 35k per month Just to set the context, apart from this, I'm passively investing into ipo's and stocks as well for the long term. I've read at a lot of places that investing in more than 10 mutual funds is a foolish choice, because most of your stocks are going to be overlapping. But I don't understand why it's called foolish? There can't be a 100% overlap of portfolio between any 2 mutual fund houses, there is always going to be a significant difference, which adds to the risk diversification any which ways, because my money is spread across multiple set of stocks and across different fund manager brains as well, for e.g. one might sell some of my stock at a high or a low, while other might not. My diversification is - 45% small cap 25% mid cap 10% large cap Rest growth or sectoral I'm open for any feedback/criticism or suggestions even.

Hello everyone, I have been working for around 13 years now. I started my investment journey around 11 years ago. Over 11 years have seen 3 market corrections. 1 major and 2 minor. Seen demonetisation, GST, covid, Russia war, middle east war. Inspite of all this was able to create a 8 digit portfolio. Hit my first 1 Cr 2 years back. I have been able to consistently able to hit 35% CAGR in my investments from past 11 years which includes equity, mutual funds, ppf, FD, etc. At my work everyone asks me for financial advice and I also have helped more than 100 of my colleagues in starting their financial journey. People are quite happy with my advice. But now I want to get your advice on how I can productize my advice so that I am able to reach people at mass who could benefit and also start their investment journey. Happy to get your suggestions and advice. Please note I don't want to start a financial advisory firm as then I can only reach or cater to max maybe 200 people. My thought is to reach 3-5 lakhs individuals. Welcome to any ideas and collaborations. Let me know.

I’ll go first. 1. What kind of investor are you? I am an opportunity investor, and I do buy good stocks whenever they are in reasonable valuations. Below are my monthly numbers. 2. Where’s the majority of your investment portfolio ? I have three RE investments and one of them has loan. And I’m planning to buy a property in Goa or HP. 3. What’s your monthly investment breakdown? 1.7L/ Month (approx) 60k - SIP (mutual funds) 60k - stocks (smallcase, us stocks using vested) 30k - as opportunity fund, this is transferred to a different bank account 10-20k - for experimental investments in crypto, nfts, and some trading. This is a new segment and I don’t have much experience in this and that’s why starting small here. 4. Anything else you want to share? I am learning to invest on a daily basis. Reading, videos and podcasts are my sources. Some of my tops picks are Whiteboard finance (Marko), My first Million and Smart Passive Income, finance with Saran, and Akshat Shrivastava.

I know it's not a big amount, but felt proud of myself because I was a big spender, but since last 6 months I have been saving aggressively. Breakdown!: Stocks: 2L MF: 1L EPF; 50k PPF: 50k FD/Emergency Fund: 1L Next target is 15L by the end of 2024. Let’s see if it’s achievable 🙏.

What’s the biggest financial mistake you’ve made in your life so far?

I started with a job of 8k/month as a data entry operator after my B.Tech from an expensive tier 4 college which I paid for using an education loan. Had major inferiority complex. Probably still do. Took some 5 years years after b.tech to pay that off. Didn't have a job in 2 of those years. Worked as a milkman for those two years. Anyway..somehow I got a meaningful job in 2017 and today I am a tech lead with 70L base and some equity. Reached this giant(atleast in my mind) milestone of 1 Cr this month. Could not have even dreamt of this much money some 5 years back. Yet, now some family members and family tell me "tukka lag gya tera" (you got lucky). But I keep feeling that I did kinda work hard for this in a way but it hurts when a first uncle or first cousin says "Tukka lag gya tera". Ofcourse now I feel financially confident(somewhat) and I try enjoy whatever pressures I can. Just wanted to share my little story.

Finally hit 1 cr in savings and investments today after 7 years of work. I know it's not a large amount but it's the best I could do while supporting my brother's education and managing my family (dad is no more). Goal is to increase by .5-1 cr yearly now. Portfolio split- MFs- 65 lakh Stocks- 28 lakh FDs and savings in banks- 7.5 lakh Forex- 3 lakh Total- approx 1 cr What I'm working towards- increasing investments in stocks to make it almost 50:50 between shares and stocks and also adding more gold and forex to the portfolio. No real estate in the next 2 year horizon
