Edtech Dillema at '_t_a' - what should my friend do?

A friend is pretty upset about where they are working. They feel a bit cheated with the #edtech company not growing as the founders kept promising them. The company has reversed its initial growth and is now not sure of the next steps. They were largely into giving charters instead of degrees and their pandemic success has disappeared. They are wondering if they should cut loss and jump ship before the company shuts. Or should they sink with the team? The founders are pretty cool guys outside. With a good reputation. But they haven't been able to scale the company and promises have dried up. I wish I could reveal the name - but I don't want to affect anyone or point at anyone else. But my friend is really traumatised and has lost interest in work and is given new roles and responsibilities every week at '_t_a'. And everyone else is demotivated and upset with how the founders seem to cut their losses by doing secondaries but they can't do a thing! Even the investors don't seem to care much. My friend and a few others plan to take this up with the founders on Wednesday. And there is an internal revolt going on.

if you believe in founders then stick to the company but only for a few months, don't waste too much time, layoffs might happen anyway, so be prepared

They are Doing that since months now. The founders said they are doing crores of revenue per month. But can't pay promised bonus and keep showing failures on employee part to not give bonuses.

Jump ship. No need to put company or founders before themselves. The work culture etc maybe cool, but they don’t have what it takes to succeed unless a total overhaul happens. I have myself done the mistake of putting early stage companies where I worked at, before my own interests. Big mistake.

Thank you, everyone. I shared this with my friend, and they're devastated. Many others feel the same. There's no use in waiting and hoping for another round of belief. A mass departure is likely. The atmosphere is dismal. Teams have lost hope and don't believe they'll see any bonuses or fair value from their ESOPs. The founders at S**a aren't being truthful about the situation. They're fixated on competition like Mesa and GrowthX, clinging to their past successes. Even the students sense the negativity. The founders have focused more on their personal brand on X rather than supporting their loyal supporters. They had a great plan but have now lost sight of their vision, prioritizing themselves over others. It would have been right to just accept defeat rather than live in the past. There seems to be a lot of money that's moved out of the system - to god knows where - but employees don't see much value. Counting days unless there is some miracle that the founder hope. This S**a ship is sinking faster than it ever sailed.

Major Shakeup at Unacademy

A lot of people at Unacademy have already resigned, and they are unable to hire replacements from the market( for who knows what reasons). Now as we all know people who are left in the organisation are going to have a tough time. Leaves not being approved, longer hours at work, mental harassment in the name of being available 24*7 is becoming a day to day thing. Now they are forcing people to take up sections of business one has never dealt with and are threatening to fire them if they are denying those roles. People who left the organisation in 2022 are the luckiest and well a bunch of well informed individuals who saw the end of this company before anyone else could have. What a time to be in edtech, indeed

Saw my job listed on linkedin. What should I do?

I joined this job 3 months back. Things haven't been good. Part of the problem is that the people I am reporting into have little to no experience in the segment they are entering into and are not willing to listen to someone who has worked in this segment for 15+ years. I am a little bemused.... I don't really need the job. But the money is nice..... Any suggestions on what to do.....

Ed-Tech is so back, milking the most out of early talent!

This could probably be a rant. But I came across this post, and I am stunned that they expect folks to pull through night shifts on Sundays and alternate Saturdays! A Friday off seemingly posed as a favor to the ones applying! In my experience, start-ups like these turn toxic pretty quickly either because the founder has unreasonable expectations or has an impulsive approach towards chasing goals! It's kind of surprising that ed-tech founders still haven't grasped the concept of how this hurts them in the long run. As for my disdain, it's also because I've seen the negative health impact roles like these carry both mentally and physically, and kind of pains me that someone somewhere would probably be picking this. What's more, noticing the tonality and time expectations, the founder thinks he is building an actual 🚀 not simply a metaphorical one😂

I've been put under PIP at Unacademy

Despite meeting all targets, I've been put under PIP. The HR is saying that I have one month to improve my performance or I'll be asked to leave, and that too without severance. I just want to know if there are similar policies at your company? Means are you not eligible for severance if you are being asked to leave under PIP?

Ethical conundrum

A few days ago, one of the senior folks used his influence to get latest 6 months data from the competition (who is kicking their ass). Shows the data to the CEO and other C level folks. Gets a broader audience too. Funny part: code of ethics clearly stated that no corporate espionage. Should I report to the board or someone anonymously or should I just ignore ? I am so pissed that I want to move on from this organisation.
