It's an independent skill. Not always a good indicator of actual job specific abilities. But it's widely used as a baseline for the lack of a better alternative. 
  
 I always try to ask problems which we actually see in our service.

If someone solve more numbers of leet code questions, can that person be considered as critical thinkers? I see many people suggesting me to solve leet code questions to clear the product base company interviews.

Is this the correct interview approach or any other ways to check critical thinking?

The lack of critical thinking these days is driving me nuts. I've got a few people on my team who've somehow BS'd their way into roles they can't handle. They can't do anything that takes more than a minute of actual thought.

It's like all I get is copy-pasted ChatGPT output for the simplest questions. Makes me seriously worried about how they will get better over time (as a lot of us did).
We're churning out folks who can't think for themselves, and it's scary as hell.

Every second/third post on my feed is promoting some mentorship/coaching. Fed up with it. 

The post starts with some gyaan ( mostly related to interview) and then ends with mentorship or coaching promo. Especially people who cracked interview at amazon and microsoft. And now any random company. Some post has pic too, which is fully unrelated to the post. 

From SDE’s perspective. 
Job at work is different from interview. And i am sure current employees, if they have to go through interview process of the same company for the same position, most of them won’t be able to crack in the first go. ( Unless they know the exact questions to be asked ). 

Coding rounds.
Companies usually have a set of questions (question bank) and interviewer picks question from it. Except for the very exceptional case, it is quite difficult to solve these questions if you haven’t solved them ( or related questions) earlier in the given time. So, it all boils down to how close are you to their question bank. 

So, instead of other things, if linkedin mentors posted about the questions they were asked, that would be more useful.

Came across a scenario multiple times while searching for senior engineer jobs. I felt that in majority of the cases if the interviewer was from IIT, no matter how much experienced they are they always have a particular style of putting you down during coding or system design type of interviews where they have high acceptance to bookish answer rather than having an open mind to other solutions which can be discussed in details and probably has a far more chances of evaluating a candidate on core thinking and logical skills rather. What do you think? Have you also faced similar scenario?

Why do many IITians do dick measuring contest during interviews?

Everyone needs a working code in the first attempt and that two proper and optimised. 

But DSA round I believe comes with luck based factor. You need to be lucky enough to get a question which you have done or seen before. 

Or have yourself updated with each structure and almost every type of problem. 

Fucked up and interview today.

Talking to my nephew nowadays seems like the AI bug has gotten to him. Even going back during the early parts of my own career and even undergrad, ML and stats was still a fledgling field. Most of the smart folks went into SDE roles at top tech.

I still remember that even back then, hiring for roles like these were extremely theoretical. You would test even experienced candidates with undergrad topics which was slightly outdated tbh because most of the functions were abstracted away and it is obvious that you would not remember the matrix approach to finding weights for a simple linear regression model.

Has this changed now? Because I don't think interviews like that actually evaluate the accumulated wisdom that experienced professionals bring to the table.

I mean it is generally a waste of time for anyone to brush up manual derivations or remember SQL niche intricacies. Usually it is better to test for the 80% knowledge that is actually useful on a day to day basis. I mean if the main things that companies test in experienced candidates is something that can be rote-memorized from a book then they are not testing the right things no?

What do you all think? Just wondering about this for some time now especially considering the hype around AI?

I see some companies (especially famous ones) are still obsessed over these leetcode type questions in interview rounds even for experienced folks, it’s frustrating.

Is grinding leetcode still necessary ?

I am a backend engineer with a 9 year exp. In my fourth company now. Started with 5 lpa, now at 31 Lpa. 
Mostly have worked in normal companies only. I am from one of the NITs. 
I am not good at DSA. Everytime I have to switch a job, my resume gets shortlisted  and I get call via naukri. 
The things is in these last 4 job searches I have been rejected 100 times. I have been rejected by almost all the companies, 
Service now 5-6 times, oracle 5-6 times, Walmart 2 times, goldman 3 times, jpmorgan 2 times, Amazon 4-5 times, arcesium 3-4 times, msft 2 times. 
Apart from these, I have been rejected by adp, celigo, phenom, barclays, flipkart etc. 

Every time, I want to change a job, I'll get rejected by all the big companies and then will get selected at some normal company with a hike and will join them. 
I am at my fourth company now, and again I am searching for a job. Have already been rejected by GS, service now, phenom, epam, ice, demandbase in last 2 months. 
Every time it is the same DSA. 

I try studying, will do decent amount of leetcode prior to interviews. Last two months I am doing leetcode from strivers sheet. 
But same question I'll do here, and in interview will fail. Example I have done sorted array rotation, shares sell and buy, rain water trapping, and was asked the same question in interview and couldn't solve. 

I also want to earn more and get into some big company and stay there for some times, what shall I do? 

My concerns are, I am getting lesser calls this time compared to the last few years, I can't be switching job every two years. 
Want to join a big company and earn more.

How to get better at DSA?

I'm a 4th year student from a pvt college. Did 3 internships, one in a decacorn, one in a unicorn. Have an offer from Amazon for SDE 1 when i graduate, and one from the company I'm working at right now. Reached so far only with development skills, projects, hackathon wins and OSS contributions.

My leetcoding and competitive coding skills are downright garbage. I have absolutely no motivation to become a leetcode monkey and get more offers, but given the current market scenario, seems hard to get good offers without mugging up  800 leetcode questions.

Folks in software engineering who made it with leetcode, how did you do it, and what did you do to kill that builder urge and mug up leetcode. I can't do this anymore.

I reflected back on my L4 Google interviews. Although I made minor mistakes and rectified by myself without additional hints from interviewer, they were looked upon as incapability. I wasn’t even considered for L3, though I solved all the questions with minimal hints with correct DS. Follow ups I was able to solve and discuss the right approach too.
Is this fair ?

Have more than 5 years of experience working for a consulting MNC, a SaaS startup and a medium-sized consulting company.

Over the years have gotten the opportunity to work as a frontend engineer(angular, react), a fullstack engineer(java, javascript/typescript, python) and currently a data engineer(pyspark/databricks, azure, gcp).

Projecting my self as a fullstack/backend engineer only.

Wanted an opinion on how do you all tackle the assignment bit when it comes to assignments as part of hiring processes. One, how regular or normal is it at senior positions ? And two, I feel that a lot of times they just ask you to do everything that is expected of the job. Eg: Create a marketing strategy after analyzing landscape and top 3 competitors. Add graphs etc.
I always have a concern of getting most out of you. Since its at round 1 they would be getting multiple such assignments, which means by design lpt of this work will be a waste and lots of inputs freely sourced.
How do you all handle it ? Can you push back ?
P.S: Am from business/ marketing aide of things and not sure of how it works for techies/ product.
