Does Stammering Prevent People from Becoming Lead Engineers ?

Hello engineers, I and others who stammer have questions about navigating careers in big tech companies. In multinational corporations, strong communication skills are often essential. However, how do individuals who stammer fare in such environments? How are they typically treated by colleagues and top management? Given the challenges individuals who stammer may face in verbal communication, how likely is it for them to face rejection during interviews, despite their deep understanding of the subject matter? In my recent interview I was rejected by a company because of the communication skill. I am not blaming the interviewer or company, because every company wants the best people who have strong communication skills and good technical skills. I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on this issue, as well as any suggestions you may have for supporting individuals who stammer in professional settings. Is there anyone who works in an MNC and has a stammering problem?

Indeed. It would certainly cause hurdles, because as a lead engineer you need to communicate with your team, and you also need to talk to multiple other stakeholders. If you can’t talk well, that is an issue. In fact I think it would cause issue across the roles, for any senior roles. That said, even below Lead role, people can earn in tons, so may be focus on that part.

Thanks for your suggestions, can you please mention the roles in software development. I have 3.6yoe in a service based company, If I want to switch to the product based company whose roles are suitable for me. Like there are less call, no presentation less talking. Have you ever met with a stammer person in your company? If yes, what was the experience, how that person managed it. This helps me a lot
