When I was job hunting a few months back, I told the head hunter that a couple of companies she proposed was not something I believed in, in the nicest way possible. Maybe a dick move, idk. She told me it’ll be impossible for me to find a job in this market if this was my attitude. 

After that, a month later, she ghosted me when I asked her if she has any leads. I spoke to a few friends and they said it’s a good thing to want to truly believe in what the company does and few told me it didn’t matter. 

To me it does, because I have always worked in very early startups and I see my time also as an investment. And not to mention, early stage startups are tedious to work in. You lose your motivation if you don’t feel like you’re contributing to a great extent in multiple areas. 

What’s your take on it? Is it alright as long as you get the money in your account?

Motivation for interview prep?

How is your work ethic? Are you all constantly on the toes ? Are you proactive, inquisitive, disciplined, do detailed research and complete tasks on time? I have been mostly working as individual contributor in very small team 1-2 person. So I have no reference for how am I doing. At time I feel guilty and anxiety when I am doing less work. I don't have references of other colleagues

I like my work, sort of a workaholic and kind of an over achiever (not trying to show off or be a narcissist).
My boss literally told me to get an offer elsewhere and he will match it, he got me a promotion and a 40% hike.
But I hardly find the motivation to search for jobs.
I'm a good problem solver, but I find the whole interview and selection process in the IT industry very systematic.. they test on concepts which hardly get used at work on the ground level. 
If i grind for a couple of interviews I would certainly get a good offer and get retained at my company, but I don't find the motivation to job hunt and prepare for interviews.
I participate in all my company's innovation initiatives and hackathons. Won a couple of them. 
I love sharing knowledge, and I don't limit myself to any role, I can work as a Product owner, tester, dev, support engineer, and often contribute to a lot of forums within my company.

I'm not that into money. Everyone I say this too tells me to give my money to them if I don't want it. Lol.
So I'm convinced that I'm not being practical..
Is something wrong with me? I agree that I deserve more, but should I do something about it?

I also suppose that I'm in a sort of a comfort zone which is preventing me from preparing for interviews.

Currently the company work at,  isn't doing good. We have had a lot of layoffs and the people that are left are either trying to switch jobs or are stuck due to external factors. 
There has been little to no communication from our management and we have no idea about the future of the company.

I’m stuck in mediocre paying job as a Backend Engineer from past 1.5 years. I want to switch but I can’t. I’m unable to came out of comfort zone.
Can anyone suggest some good strategies to stay motivated and focused on your job search despite the challenges.

I have around decade of work in IT sector, have decent pay but can't seem to like my work anymore. Is it because
- of fully remote work? No outside interaction 
- I'm in the wrong career. No passion for domain
- this is natural? Happens to everyone

Heyall, I'm feeling demotivated in workplace. Primary reason: I always keep a small circle and likes 1:1 chats only. But in workplace everyone  seems to keep a relation with managers that even if they do something wrong the managers doesn't care. But if I do some mistake they don't mind taking it to everywhere as a blame. I think I'm getting into the boring and demotivated side of me. Is this normal for first timers?

These days, I feel lost at work. I keep procrastinating, with the first half of my mornings consumed by calls, and by the afternoon, I feel sleepy. I tell myself I’ll work at night but end up postponing it until early morning. I give 'in progress' updates during stand-ups, and somehow manage to finish everything under pressure on the last day of the sprint. It feels like I can’t motivate myself to work until the pressure hits. How can I overcome this behavior?

My current salary is 42LPA. I am from IIT, have 7 years of experience and work in product. Honestly, my value in the market is higher than what I’m being paid but I am very demotivated to optimise for that. When I do see less deserving people minting more money, I feel that I am doing injustice to myself and playing the wrong hand.

More and more though, the thought of earning more money chokes me a bit. I have dreams of building something of my own - that gives me control to build something my way and freedom to live my life as per my terms. But the mindset of “zyada paisa pareshaani hai” doesn’t leave me.

My family also is not dependent on me and whatever is needed from my side, I actively contribute to. I also lack any motivation to focus on my investments and see my money grow. I just have money sitting around in my bank account purely for nothing

I also look at my lifestyle choices from time to time and go into existential debate of why we need the things that we do. This has come to a point where I really do not understand my relationship with money and why we earn and spend it. 

For me at this point, it’s just a show for the world. There’s very little that you need, and really no limit to what you want to show. And I just don’t see a point in it anymore.

 I get the trouble you face. When you’ve almost figured out what you like and what you don’t like (that money isn’t thaaat needle moving, I have basic needs) but at the same time, the opportunity cost of relaxing is too high - everybody from your batch will remind you of how far you can go, and the middle class boy in you will find it difficult to stomach letting go of all the money, even though you can make it  
  
 Went through this at one point. I have ultimately sided with money. I cannot sit back and relax. Money will only unlock a lot of foreign travel and good lifestyle for me. But more than that, I am lucky to be in a position that allows me to earn money easier than other people do. So I’ll make it, help extended family and people who cannot earn as easily, because at least in a country like India, it’s almost a responsibility. We’re not fucking Europe. 
  
 I’ll just not kill myself for it as much as I used to :)

Everyday i wake up with no motivation to work. Spend most of my day trying to gather any will i have to get something done and just wait for the evening standup. After which i have no energy to do anything since all was lost trying to ( not necessarily doing ) work. Can anyone relate? Or gone through it? How do you even fix it?

PS: don't suggest grass is greener on other side and how there are jobless people in the world...

Lost motivation to work

I am preparing for the Staff engineer role. Have put my resignation without any offer in hand due to being highly underpaid, no recognition towards my high-value work, poor management, toxic work culture and work-life balance.

I lose all my motivation to study gauzing at the things I am yet to study for the interviews.

I don't want to settle with another mediocre company and stay under paid just like today.
At the same time I don't have any monetory reserve to feel safe on financial side.

Please help me with your words and past experiences of being in a similar situation.
